hey, I'm not sure if i've put this in the right place or not... feel free to move it if I'm wrong.
i have a 1979 ke55 sedan. i've put alot of work into it and am now considering moving onto another project
-has a custom green paintjob, was done around 2 months ago and car hasnt left shed once since its been done. inside boot is painted matte black. cost of $1k
-all rust has been cut out, new plate welded in, fibreglassed then bogged etc. car was rust prevented with fish oil, inside doors and boot lid etc etc.
-is on 15" skyline chasers with BRAND NEW diamond back tyres. cost of $700 all up
-full chrome ke30 bumpers
-new H4 headlights, re-positioned side indicators, like vx commodores with those indicators aswell.
-specometer tacho
-ke70 5 speed gearbox
-engine had new head gasket, new gaskets thru carby, new water pump, new drive belt, new manifold gaskets, valves re-tapped, new air,oil and fuel filter and coolant. all this done a little while ago but car hasnt even driven 10km since then. most of its life with me has been in a shed.
here is the link to my project thread, hasnt been updated in a long time tho...

how can i find number 1 on the dizzy? is it marked or anything?
-
I just used a Gregory’s workshop manual. It’s pretty easy.
From memory: you line the rotor button with number 1 on the dizzy, set number 1 piston to TDC on compression stroke. Then install the dizzy. You might have to use a screw driver to turn the oil pump so the rotor is aligned.
The manual has pictures and stuff. You can even get one from the library.
ah ok, i have a gregory's manual n had a read today, it all seems pretty straight forward now. thought i would jus get opinions aswell tho, thanks

i went round to see the bash car today and take it out for a spin. but when i lift the bonnet to jump the battery, i notice the distributor and leads have been taken. also the dipstick was thrown across the yard and oil was all down the side of the engine. considering there is a backpackers jus across the road and u can just see the car from the road, i point the finger with no questions. :) :bash:
I'm asking, if i get a dizzy and leads from a wreckers. how do i put the dizzy back in considering it wasn't lined up or anythin?
-
sorry to hear bout that mate. major kick in the nuts!! lol. i went to check on my bash car today and take it outta town for a spin, some F***HEAD has taken the complete distributor and all the leads and left one hell of a mess. hope all goes well with the replacement parts and alarm if u get one....
-
u can buy pin striping rolls. i got a roll of white to go on my car. it's just a thin kind of tape.
i haven't used it yet so don't exactly kno what it is or how good it works.
i got mine from auto barn

on a kind of related note (don't mean to hijack your thread either JOEKA, tell me off if so) my ke30 has chrome strips, but they have clear plastic over the top which has since cracked from UV damage and I want to get all of it off cos it looks crap. Is there any way of doing this well without having to pop out the windscreen, I mean, can you just pop out the chrome strips from the rubber and leave the windscreen in tact and then just pop them back in after i've taken all the yellow'd plastic off?
thanks in advance
yeah u can. the chrome strips simply pull out, removal of the windscreen isn't necessary.
i pulled all mine out and chucked them cause they were badly cracked, buggered if i kno what I'm gonna do now lol
-
i have full chrome ke30 bumpers to put on it. is it possible to adjust them so they line up on the car??
the front bumper pushes to the right way too much and rubs on the LH quarter panel (allready chipped paint, F**K!!)
any ideas or help on this would be awesome!!
-
i would say the same as taz rx. wheel balance is the first thing that came 2 my mind
-
ah ok then, havent' really considered ebay, i checked out rare spares a lil while back and i was lookin at around $900 for the 4 doors, boot and i think front n rear windscreen :D
will check out ebay pretty soon
anyway here are some pics of the car out in the daylight, pics still show the colour poorly (half way back together)
needs to be black behind there i rekon. Note the new horn, accidentally broke terminals off 1 of the old ones lol
-
hey, does anyone kno where i can get cheap but new door seals? I'm after all 4, plus boot seal and also the seal at rear of bonnet....
they're the only thing holdin me back from getting this thing back on the road..
need them asap! any help would b great
-
haha 2 late now mate, from all the shit i went thru jus to get it painted, i jus wanna leave it lol.
time to start focusing on re-assembly and problems
-
lol yeah I'm stoked that it's finally home.
ummm no metallics, just a solid colour. was thinkin of doin a coloured clear when i was goin to paint it white.
but not much matches with green otherwise lol

october 3 2008, holy s**t! it's been a while since last update. well comparing to the above pics u wouldnt recognise it. ALL dents and creases have been knocked out, and bogged (if needed), all panels are back on, primed and aligned. inside of doors and door jams are green, came up sweet as!! the spot priming was finished today, unfortunately cold weather so drying time was gonna b a while before sanding. and if all goes well, it should get it's first green coat next weekend. in the mean time, i bought a specometer tacho to replace the clock, i've been trying to work out stereo issues, what to do about wheel spacing and fixing a carby problem..... hopefully get some pics of it next weekend and post them up.
oh, and anyone know where i can get cheap new door seals?? need all 4, boot seal and the seal at rear of bonnet
-
in the pics it doesn't look like u have used any other mufflers or anything apart from the 1 at the back, is that right? if so, is it very loud at all?
-
i would have thought with a stock 4k, after reading the faq. i have been thinkin for my car a 1.75" to 2" pipe over the diff.
-
You can hi-jack my thread, i don't mind
The ones i am looking at on egay come as a set of 4 anyway
lol yeah, u lookin at the 20mm ones bein sold by tyres_wheels for $210?
i saw them but only need 15mm lol
-
hey, i only started this thread cause i didnt wanna hi-jack KE ping it real's thread, and also i might actually get responses in my own...
well i bought normal plate spacers for my 55' a while ago......and i regret it!!!
i want to get 15mm bolt on's but I'm not sure whether to get 2 or 4 of them...?
i have seen some on ebay that do any stud pattern and 6 different widths.
i am only asking 2 or 4 because i don't want my front wheels poking out heaps and the rear still tucked in......
would it look stupid or should i get 4 so it fills the rear gaurds more aswell.....?
-
hey mate
i have got bolt on spacers on my rolla
there huge
there really safe ONLY if u use super lock when u put the bolts on and use a torque rench
the only place i could get mine from is wheel works on south rd
280$ for all 4
here is a pic of my rims wid spacers but can't really see them
ps good tip is to paint them black and get black rims
hey mate, can u post up a pic showin the side of ur vehicle (from the front looking to the back)
-
i have a set of spacers on my ae90 aswell.. but they a a bit diff to the ones u guys have.. as mine are only 3mm think.. mine just sit on and bolt up tight when u do the noirmal wheel nuts up
no problems as yet..touch wood!!
Cheers Tory
i have the same ones on my 55. except i got like 9mm on both front wheels.
and they shorten the amount of thread to use so I'm thinkin of buyin bolt on's.....

Hey mate,
1)where the jets are... clicky clicky
2) shouldnt really matter
3)there are 2 idle jets thats one of them, and the other should be 60 if I'm right?
hey thanks for that, didnt kno there were 2 idle jets.
the question i desperate 2 kno is number 4...... or i could jus sell it n get dellorto's hahaha if only money wasnt an issue
-
1. in my 32/36 dgav weber i am yet to change the jets to the sizes recommended in the FAQ (as i have a stock 4k)
but when i read:
130 mains
170 air jets
50 idle
which jets r the mains?
are the 2 small jets (fuel jets) in the fuel bowl the mains because they r the only other changeable ones.....
and a few other questions....
2. should i fill the fuel bowl a bit when i first put it on to start it?
3. what jet is this? it has a 50 jet in it. but i kno that the idle jet is on the other side.
4. when i rotate the accelerator linkage, it does not open up the top flaps. there is a tab that is meant to be pushed by a lever on
accelerator linkage but they don't come into contact, pics below.

nuh it's straight as, i don't understand wats goin on. but its a long way from fitting. might have 2 modify brackets somehow... i got brackets comin for the rear bumper so i think that will fit up allright.
