  1. Hey folks, I tried searching for this but it wouldn't let me search "5" or "6" because they are too small...anyhow, if this has been asked before please just redirect me and it would be greatly appreciated  So basically, I'm converting my 4afe ae92 to a blacktop and i was wondering whether i should purchase the one with a 5 speed tranny or the 6 speed? There will be none to minimal trackwork being done and it is a daily. So straight line speed which is quicker? Or more economical? And as a final question, would the 6 speed need modifications done to the transmission tunnel/shifter, and how much would this cost? As there is an extra gear and all... Any personal experiences here would be extremely helpful too ;) Sorry to ask so much...cheers.
  2. Yeah i've sort of gathered that the 20v will often get outdone in a straight line... But as you say, that sort of motor really needs to be worked to achieve its full potential :P Also, I do plan on getting the car with the silvertop out to Queensland Raceway for some circuit work, and I am keen as a driver and I certainly don't mind a bit of heel and toeing haha So I have no qualms there :lolcry: However, I think I'll stick with the n/a 20v and keep it neat and tidy, rather than going turbo or a bigger displacement motor I appreciate your help mate, and again, anyone one else who has an opinion, feel free to chip in :) Cheers.
  3. Oh true stuff Thanks for that Mark :P I guess what you are trying to say is that a fwd silvertop will be pretty much equal to the rwd equivalent in terms of straight line speed? Although the ke55 would have been a bit lighter wouldn't it? Btw how did you find the silvertop powered corollas went compared to other cars mate? As in what sort of cars can one expect to beat in a straight line with the 20v? Cheers :lolcry:
  4. Yeah cheers for your help mate :P dragtimes is a great website ay, and i've already checked out like every corolla on there :lolcry: but unfortunately (well for me haha) there is only one silvertop on there, in an ae86, and he does a 15.8 and reckons he could have done much better with traction which gives me hope :) thanks again though mate.
  5. Thats some good first hand info there, cheers mystik Well seeing as you seem to know a bit about the power outputs of these things, what sort of gains do you, or any other members out there for that matter, reckon i could make on a silvertop with just a couple of 'bolt on' mods? :bash: By this I mean, blacktop MAP sensor and ecu, a home made cold air intake with drop in K&N, new plugs, leads, new alloy radiator and cat back exhaust...i'll also just do the general maintenance needed to be done on a 15 year old engine too And with these things done, does anyone think that I will be able to get into that 15 second bracket?? Cheers everyone :)
  6. Sorry about taking so long to reply people, but life has been hectic. But in any case, littleredspirit you have almost hit the nail on the head with my thoughts about the factory power outputs of the 20v motors :) However I do believe that they must have been a teeny tiny bit inflated...seeing as our 98ron is not that different to the 100ron i believe they were factory tested on But all in all i agree, and I do hope that like you've said, a 20v goes great in my fwd corolla :hmm: cheers :bash:
  7. Ah i see i see. Thanks for clearing that up Luke :D anyway, yeah i know that if i want wicked 1/4 times i'll have to go turbo anddd tough. But in actual fact i couldn't agree with you more about the corners buddy, infact I plan on getting out to Queensland Raceway for the saturday arvo sprints once the silvertop is in. I just want the quarter mile time as a reference for how quick it will be in a straight line. As i said, i'm not out to destroy the quarter, anything in the high 15s would be plenty good enough for me. But in any case thanks for your input mate :D
  8. Thanks heaps for the quick replies folks ok i'll be sure to check out that youtube vid...i've seen most of the others on there and they look to go alright as for what car it's for, it will be going into an ae92 hatch which currently has a 4afe in. Which btw, i recently took out to willowbank for some laughs and managed to pull a 17.8 :D with zero track experience haha. So in any case i'm hoping for a big improve on the current pb. Luke-i'm not entirely sure of what you are saying? Are you saying that if i want to do well on the quarter mile i should go with a different engine? And if so, what do you suggest? Just hoping you could clarify :D Littleredspirit-thanks for that link to those times and all the other info, yeah i'm pretty sure there would have to be more 0-400m runs than that on this forum ay. Anyway, just one more question, is the T50 the standard gearbox that i would find with a silvertop halfcut? Btw my goal would be for times anywhere below 16 seconds :D Cheers.
  9. Ok so i have searched the topic of 20v 1/4 mile times quite extensively on google and also here on rollaclub, but i cannot seem to find a comprehensive answer...but ofcourse, if it has already been covered elsewhere please just let me know :D I was hoping for mainly personal experience of track times, but anyone with a genuine opinion feel free to offer it as well Any information on the modifications to the engine and car would be appreciated also :D cheers.
