by strengthened you mean what exactly?
oh and yes the gearboxes are interchangeable between all A-series motors
Thanks for the reply, and when i had the gearbox rebuilt - gearbox guy said "i will get stronger gears then the standard ones"
i assume.. that means stronger? :D (lol)
cheers.

Hey Guys,
i am about to start a SR20 swap in my KE55 sedan, and have a few questions.
1 - Fuel rails? do they need changing...
2 - tail shaft.. does it need changing
3 - will the borg warner diff hold upto a SR20DET?
4 - engine angles.. what angle should it sit at?
5 - any advice / information or ANYTHING you have about putting an SR20 into a KE would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks heaps!!!

Unfortunately Corolla 2's are very rare in OZ. Its fwd, so set-up wise the same principles will apply as AE82 + Corollas. I think the corolla 2 is from the "tercel" family of toyotas, I think Paseos might be the same family, so you might be able to use Paseo parts.
Thanks for your input, it is greatly appreciated.
I even tried local suspension mob.. but = fail...
i have tried Fulcrum as well, they said i have to fully customise a set.
I tried Japanese Imports Pty Ltd but could not get an answer on their telephone for 2 days in a row..
I am wondering if the number has changed, apparently according to local suspension mob, they can order stuff from over seas...?

I'm sure liking everything I'm seeing.. just a matter of MAKING MINDS UP! lol..
the red 55 sure is hot as hell!
how bout a Corolla 2 GP Turbo to add to the situation?! think some of the rare ones need their place too!

Yeah, I'm probably going to be alot stricter this year. I would like for them to be done by December. That would mean pics would need to be to me by October. I really don't want to be chasing people for photos. If we do choose option 1 (the same layout as last year) I will not hesitate to cancel the whole thing if members wont get their crap together. Its not worth the extra stress for me. I don't want to be searching at the last minute to find fillers for certain months like last year.
If we all work together I'm sure it will turn out great.
I think I'll turn this into a poll at which by July 31 the highest is what we'll go for. Then we will have 2 months to plan and execute the photo shoots.
Dec could be GP Turbo's! :)

Wouldn't say no to one of them if i had the chance and had the money.
But anyway, i'm no turbo expert but it could be a carbon build up. I'd say get a vacuum gauge on to it and see what the idle's like - might sound ok but.... And then see about a turbo gauge to see what the boost is like.
But like i said - i'm no turbo expert
Have you tried having a google for things like "Turbo Troubleshooting" ?
Thanks for the info... turns out after putting a boost gauge on it - the boost has been wound up to 15PSI! (idiot old man!)
so it would seem to me that the map sensor is cutting out and bringing the boost back to a safe lvl..
i think if i wanted to keep that kinda boost i would needa 2 bar map sensor.. how ever i think i will remove the dodgy boost tee he has in there and run standard
boost back in it.. should be A ok then!
anyone agree?? lol

Hey all, have the KE55 off the road at the moment.. getting stripped and converted...
my daily is now a GP Turbo, Corolla 2!
perfect little car, 1.5 turbo sohc.
BUT lol
i know nothing about the car itself, stock boost? at the moment.
when i accelerate it takes off, and boosts up but appears to stall for a split second. and then it takes off again, how ever seems to have much lower boost. say from 7psi to 3psi...
turn the car off. start again and away it goes..
i have seen on some other images that there appears to be a BOOST switch on the dash.. could this be causing the issue? it appears to be a high / low boost switch standard!
or could it be something else ??? vaccum sensors or what?
Cheers all!

Hey Guys, I'm back - i have finnaly ordered some Coil Overs for the front, i have taken the dive and spent just over $1400 for them to be custom made (don't ask for set up yet lol, they did it i have no idea!
i just said.. low stiff and adjustable)
what i want to know is...
will i fit
17x7 under the rear of my ke55? and front? i am aware that i may need to roll the guards and flare them too possibly, but i want to know for sure what to do!
cheers

p.s them be the wheels i want!

is there any springs we can get from another car that should make a stiffer ride on the front? and bmw e30 shockers for the rear and 2 more leafs?
Yeah, EB Falcon Rear "LOW" Springs
then cut to the height you want.. makes them 7KG VERY STIFF!

Can't be done legally in Qld at this time.
There's no point in building a car you can't drive.
Nawww thats no fair! lol... well in that case, scrap that - guess its going to be the SR20
might i ask, why it is not legal?
-
Hi Guys...
so many things to think about, i was pondering a 4Age 20v conversion, but everyone has done it!.... so i thought, SR20.... but there have quiet a few who have done this as well...
so i have moved my thoughts to 13b rotary! - perhaps a 13b Bridge Port Turbo... (drool :D )
this, i realise will be a police magnet ... :hmm: but this really isnt a concern to me lol... thinking about getting the plate PIGB8 .. (its taken unfortunatly.. but the idea is AWESOME!)
does any one know of someone who has done this conversion? is it hard? and who wants in?! lol...
thanks guys i await your imput!! :D

anything???? hello anyone here...
yes... BUT WE WANT PICS!!!

personally i'd say 300 would be about right for a all rounder(as in goes to the track sometimes), i think the point the guys were getting up there is stiff springs are no good without the speed and momentium to get them to move, i.e 8kg will have crap grip on bumpy roads at 50k but have good grip hitting a corner at 180k on a smooth surface with grippy tyres
if i was you i'd prob run some trd ae92 inserts,if they fit in your casings(maybe too fat), shorten the casing to get more travel, some rcas's to bring the arm back down, think there about 1400/550nm valving
and don't forget to do a dry run (no springs) to set correct bumpstop height so your wheels don't contact anything under extreme loads
as for premade "superlows" i think your only option in such extreme spring rates are TRD for ae86, they go upto 8kg i believe, but i don't know if they would give you the height you desire
Thanks of the post! your wealth of knowledge from all astounds me.
I have been talking to a Gent here on the forums, who is going to be be nice enough to send me a set of R31 skyline front coil overs, control and steering arms etc...
I think i have a winner!!!

Hi Guys! (and Gals)
just wondering.. i have a KE55.. and am putting a SR20 in the lil fella...
who has some good ideas for number plates? i want to incorperate the KE55 SR20 if i can... some form of smart way of putting the two together so people will pick up its a ke with a sr20
well ke with an sr!
:)
thanks guys!
-
well in the back, i have had the springs set 3" lower and had an extra leaf put in.. just waiting for them to return! (thank got for spares!)
and well, for the front i was going to go coil overs.. i do really want it tight as i live up the hills and go up and down up and down and the corners.. are extreamly tight!
so.. maybe 300 - 350lbs? if that is sounding more plausable?
... so many questions..
i just need someone to give me a straight answer :)
someone tell me.. what shocks to buy, what springs.. what else i need .. brands lol..
(not asking much i know :))
thanks guys!
-
Ok guys!
The rear is sweet as! loving it such a straight, tight ride.
however! the front, i need to know - i would like 450lbs superlows...
any idea where i would get these made??
thanks in advance again :)
-
figured everyone else had posted.. i wanted to as well so i don't feel lonley! i got it too!
-
400lb is pretty damn stiff... i run 450lb in my ke70 wagon with a heavy sr20det and i use it for drifting, i used to run 350pd with the 5k turbo in the same car and it was my daily on the street, also used to hit the tack and i thought it was a good compremise between the two, the thing i noticed when i went to the 450lb was i changed the shocks to trd units and it made it wayyyyyy nicer to drive, so valving is really important when running stiff springs
to drop the front 3" i'd recomend you shorten the strut casing with a shorter insert so you still have some travel... would also be running RCA's cause you'll be close to flat lower arm
nice thanks for the update, hey what did you have to do to get the sr in it?
fire wall mods tunel mods etc?
thanks champ!

The only real problems with cut springs are:
- they don't locate so well in the spring carrier as you've cut away the nicely formed end that sat there. This can be an issue as the spring can rotate to the side when you unload it (top of a bump, inside of a corner etc)
- depending on how you cut them, they are more likely to crack and break ... mid-corner would be lots of fun!
- illegal
- your insurance company will walk away refusing to have anything to do with paying a single damn cent
Really, it's just not worth it.
You will save yourself the cost of one set of springs by cutting the ones you have.
Subtract the cost of your falcon springs if you have to buy them. So you've saved, oh, I don't know, $150?
Is $150 worth the risk of
- car defected - will the rest of the car pass the intensive inspection that will result?
- fine/charges brought against you after an accident for driving an unroadworthy car
- zero insurance coverage if you're in a stack and the assessor notices your dodgey springs
You're better off getting the right spring (with the rate of a cut falcon spring if that's what you want) coupled with an effective damper.
As an aside: if you're driving on the road, you'll need a softer spring than you can tolerate on the track. The roads are not as smooth as a track - don't think that "harder is better, so really hard must be best" :jamie: A road car has to be a compromise.
Having said all that, there are some excellent recommendations earlier in this thread. You should be looking for:
An inch or two lower in the front with a stiffer spring and a matched damper. If you can't afford that, go for a Pedders or Industrial Springs or whatever, 20% stiffer spring (or so) with a new monroe gas or similar (OEM replacement) shock. The extra spring stiffness is okay with the original damper.
Don't go much any lower than flat control arms without considering roll-center adjusters or something similar, even flat is pushing it.
Invert the eyes at the rear and add an extra leaf - original damper should be fine, but a stiffer one would be better.
Urethane all your front-end bushes - swaybar mounts, ends, radius rods and lower control arm.
Urethane what you can on the rear suspension. With my KE25, I could only get rear hangers, none of the other bushes were available.
Ideally, you'd be better off replacing the dampers with billstein or similar but your wallet may force you to make a compromise!
cheers,
Slapper
Thanks for the Novel, i honestly appreciate people who take the time to help me understand the pros AND cons of doing things.
ok, so now my head has stopped hurting -
i was hoping to lower about 3" in the front and the rear, do you know if this would be making the control arms flat? and what is the implications of doing so?
also - does anyone know of a Strut Brace for the front of a KE55?
i think i will be going with a new strut in the front, with custom spring rate springs. 400lbs i think would be nice.
for the rear i will be getting the springs reset lower and will be putting an extra leaf in to stiffen it up a little. and with my brand new fitted today KYB damper in the rear it is quiet nice.
i will keep all posted if people could keep giving me your awesome imput! thanks heaps
its going to be a little ripper
goes in for paint in 4 weeks, had all the panel work done on it last week by ROLLAANDY (bit of advertising there for ya andy )
looking for wheels... hoping to get custom made, 4 x 114.3 7" +12 offset watanabe's BUT so BLEEDING EXSPENSIVE! :D
thanks muchly!

hmmmm, i am hearing a lot about cutting springs, and it doesnt seem to bad - i did do it in my old AE92 Seca, but they were stock springs and it hit bump stop very easy.
so would it be safe to assume that the Falcon springs have a heavy rate stopping this?
