  1. Well the special managed ONE lap before puking oil out of every possible location. Still I would not call it a failure but not a rousing success either.

    some corners handled surprisingly well

it felt good suspension wise but power SUCKED flat to the wood all the way round and left foot squeeze for the corners

  2. I'm beginning to get a bit antsy. Sunday I will be debuting my Corolla in SCCA solo2 competition. I will try to get someone to take photos of the car while on course. Last time anyone saw photos of the car it was monochromatic hammerite brown.

tomorrow I will take some photos of the car in full race regalia

I really hope this thing works out to be a good race car.

  3. To Do list:

    Install modified MR2 seat=DONE

    Install race harness=DONE

    Install tow bar=DONE

make and install divider panels =Wednesday

repair the hole in the floor=Wednesday

fuel filter= have two new ones

    rebuild carburetor=Wednesday

Why is it everything comes down to the last minute?

  4. DANGIT I have to rebuild my carby before i can race and I have tons left to do on the car. I have a hole in the floor to weld a plate over, I need to find and install some thin metal where the back seat was, install the new racing seat, make mounts for the tow bar and I need to vacuum the whole car out. to top it all off I have to do this within two weeks or less so I can debut the car.

  5. we did but California ate all the Starlets and turned them into 3tc turbo drag cars On the east coast there are few older toyotas and no Starlets

I'll build this with parts I have laying around so it will be cheap (not low quality just low cost)

  6. I have decided to go ahead and turbocharge my 3k I would like to see some more power. My plans are fairly simple build a steel box around the Weber 32/36 and force some nice cool air into it (lol).

I have a couple turbo's to chose from a T25 from an eclipse or an IHI from a 1.8 suby. I am leaning heavily toward the IHI since it is the smaller of the two and is clocked more or less correct. Intercooling will happen I have a nice 27x5.5x2.25 front mount that will be installed soon. I will be welding up a nice heavy box to mount the carby inside and it will have the BOV mounted on it. Fueling will probably be handled by a GM TBI fuel pump since they are rated to 20psi. and a 1:1 RRFPR will keep things 3psi above boost. My car fortunately came with electronic ignition and a dual vac can so I think I can get some boost retard (I'll have to test it to see). My drive train is all stock after this the trans is a K40 the diff an open and tiny japanese one with 3.9:1 gears.

My power goals are low but compared to stock configuration they are huge I'd like to see 52rwkw or 69 KW at the engine.

  7. Gday mate, can you get any pics of the offending oil leak?

Some things that I notice on mine on that side that may be causing it (you would probably notice other issues if the HG was that bad)

    - Spark Plug tubes, if the orings are stuffed you will get oil.

    - Dizzy, I always seem to have a little oil pooling around, I suspect it's coming out around the dizzy seal

    - Rocker cover gasket, oil may be running down the "pooling" around your head gasket lip.

I doubt it's the HG, you only one pressurised oil path passing through the Head Gasket where it feeds to the head. The low pressure oil return galleries would be very unlikely to cause the leak.

It could well be the dizzy I'll have a closer look next time I go out to work on it. The oil I saw was at the rear of the head along the gasket but I didn't see anything running down from the spark plug tubes.

  8. I managed to fire my Corolla and the 3K started leaking from what looks like the head gasket on the camshaft side. This engine has had a headgasket replaced and was not run till today. Will a re-torque help or am I doomed to pull the head?

  9. one thing I noticed about the intake is the heat sink is recessed a bit so the only metal to metal contact is around the gasket surface so I may have a larger reduction in inlet temps than anticipated. either way it does smooth the exhaust flow for those two ports a bunch.
