In related news, I will be in town next Friday night as I've arranged to have it off. I've also arranged the following three weeks off work from Coles. WOOT!!!! Relaxation time. And I'll still have eight weeks annual leave in reserve from Coles. :D :locked: ;)

ancullen Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 I'm just a checkout operator. I wasn't allowed to do nightfill because I'd just stepped down as nightfill manager and the store manager didn't want any conflict with the new manager, which was fine. So that only left checkouts for me to work on, which I didn't have any problem with. As for quitting, if I stay, I build up more holidays (and sick leave ;)), so when I finally quit, I'll not only have the week-to-week money I earn, but a heap of annual leave as well. :D
Pure-SX Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 At least you know how to benefit from the "system", when I finally quit Woolies, I had about $1500.00 annual leave :D. Trust me back then that was alot of money for a 16-17yr old that works 15hrs to 20hrs ish a week. Looking forward to motorkhana should be a blast ;)
ancullen Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 Yeah, I got $1,800 in leave paid out (after tax) when Woolies and I parted ways. I was 19 at the time though, so I would have been making a bit more per hour than you. And for six months I was the store duty manager, doing about 30 hours per week.
Pure-SX Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 But yeah I was so happy getting that much paid at once(1500 after tax), Now I am earning a few hundred dollars less a fortnight :D

ancullen Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 But yeah I was so happy getting that much paid at once(1500 after tax), Now I am earning a few hundred dollars less a fortnight :D $1,500 after tax? Not bad. Especially since you only would have been on about $9/hour. When I first started at Woolies I was 16 and I was making $6.60/hour. When I started my apprenticeship I was 20 and I was making $6.30/hour. And people wonder why no one wants to be an apprentice any more! If I'd stayed with the apprenticeship another month, I would have turned 21 and started making $12.40/hour. Instead I went back to Coles as night supervisor and was on $17/hour. Then after about a year of that, I was promoted to nightfill manager and got $17.70/hour for about 40 hours per week on average (plus overtime loading and Sunday loadings), plus $50 a week for working in a large store. I was making about $43,000/year, but working shitty hours (sometimes as late as 3am. Now I work 37.5 hours per week, with overtime available if I want it. I bring home $550/week. But because I work such nice hours during the day, I can still work at Coles part time, bringing home about $200/week. I'll have to pay some of that back come tax time though. I make $900/week before tax between the two jobs, so I'm on about $52,000/year. With any luck Alley will get a government job soon (probably AO2), and will hopefully stay with Woolies part-time (fifteen hours a week like I do at Coles). So that'll mean she'll be making about $50,000/year, which will put us on Easy St. ;) We were discussing it today, and if all goes to plan, we'll increase our allowances from $120/week to $200/week. Can anyone say "Fast KE55"?
Pure-SX Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 When I started at woolies I was on $7ish an hour, when I hit 17 I was on $9ish an hr. I was there for about 1.5years I think Earning about $10,000-$12,000 a year. After that I worked at Darwin Mitsubishi as a junior storeman for like $12.50 and hour, I was on about $22,000 a year. At the moment I don't have an hourly rate salary bitches :D On $37000 a year atm, equates to just under $1200 a fortnight. Alison(girlfriend) has gotten herself a pretty much fulltime job at a daycare centre pulling in about $1000 a fortnight. So yeah we are currently discussing options. 3 year anniversary tomorrow ;)
