beauistheman Posted September 14, 2007 Report Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) Hey, she just stopped starting. Turns over fine. Checked all leads/plugs/distributor/coil. Nothing. Now i believe its the fuel pump. Is it fair to just remove the piping from the filter to the manifold, turn it over and see if any fuel is pumped through? Also, could it just be a relay? If so where is it and how can i check it? If the pump is gone, do i need to drop the tank or can i access it from outside somehow, because i can't see it. Thanks for the time. towe001 Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 Where the wiper motor is you'll find these group of connectors. A - is the the one to test the fuel pump B - is for the diagnostics (engine check light) You'll need a jumper wire to make the connection turn the ignition to the start position. If you've connected the one for the fuel pump you should hear the pump working. If not, your going to have to lift the back seat up (as well as the carpet under the seat) and unplug the connectors there (ones for the fuel gauge, the other ones for the pump). Before going too far with it all just do a test to make sure your getting power to the pump first. If you did have power going to the pump, you'll be getting under the back of the car to drop the tank to get to the pump. Its all fun and games..... Quote
beauistheman Posted September 16, 2007 Author Report Posted September 16, 2007 Thanks heaps for that info mate, i was about to jump the diagnostic set but then i just checked again. Checked the pump and spark again, pump works beautifully, but no spark. Gave the dizzy a bump while cracking it and it started. I guess that means its those magnet/coil things in the distributor eh? So ill have to do the timing again....Any tips? Is the clearence for those magnets and the center piece 10thou? Quote
towe001 Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Tip ? Be good to your mum When you do the timing, put a jumper wire in the diagnostic plug 1st. The air gap at the magnets is 0.2 - 0.4mm Have you tried grounding the coil to see if your getting spark from it ? Try another spark lead from the coil to the dissy You might even have to try another igniter But anyways, if you've got a digital multimeter here's a couple of things to try. Quote
