COROLLAANDY Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Gday just having a problem with a friends car. Went to swap ignitions and couldnt get it out! Has anyone had the same problem?? You start the car and the starter motor keeps running, so turn off the key but the starter keeps going. Had to pull off the battery lead to stop it. Me thinking either a problem in the ignition system or possibly the starter relay crook, don't think its a starter motor problem, but it will be soon!! Cheers, any ideas?? Quote
Beejae82 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 There's a fair bit involved, half the steering assembly has to be removed, the barrel also wraps around the steering column, there's one big part that has to be removed, and there's one screw holding the switch into the rear of the barrel Quote
COROLLAANDY Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 So theres no removing the barrel from the mounting bracket that surrounds it, like the earlier KE series?? It must be removed as one piece, must it ?? Quote
Beejae82 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Yeah mate, unfortunately its 1 piece, it annoyed me when I wanted to remove the barrel before I scrapped my sedan. Quote
Toyrolla Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 You should be able to remove the guts of the barrell. Turn key to acc and depress the little button near the back of it on the underside. Otherwise, yeah, you have to remove those 2 rounded off head bolts. Hammer and centrepop is what I used. But that is much easier with the steering column on the bench :y: Quote
COROLLAANDY Posted February 14, 2008 Author Report Posted February 14, 2008 Well, I managed to remove just the barrel. Theres a little hole on top of the surround and when you insert a small screwdriver in it and pull on the key with it on acc the barrel comes out!! Easy! Quote
