Replacing Torsion Spring On Ke26 Tailgate

hey guys, one of the torsional springs that hold the tailgate open have snapped at both ends on my wagon so the tailgate can't hold itself up. i have a complete hinge/torsion springs setup which i've nicked from my panelvan n wanna know if its worthwhile to just change the broken spring or pull off the entire unit as one n swap it over with the one from my van? cos it looks like i'd have to pull down the roof lining section at the rear n f@$kd if I'm gonna beable to get it back looking right after :).

has anyone done this before?? as I'm at a loss at how i should tackle this.
