phife Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 Brakes: Look for something custom from Hoppers Stoppers Steering: Replacing worn original ball joints / tie rods would help lighten the steering. May be possible to fit a rack and pinion from a ke70 with a fair bit of work to get the geometries right (especially with a V6 in the engine bay) i would like to use commodore brakes just for the engeniering purposes. I assume it's a small block V6 (under 2.0L), in NSW (and most states) the engineering rule for a NA engine is tare weight x3 (ie. KE10 weighs 710kg x 3 = 2.13L engine allowable) Quote
ke11restorer Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 I found that my corolla had a worn steering box, something to do with the worm. I got it reconditioned, (thanks to my old man) And put new ball joints, tie rods, pitman arm. It drives perfect, steering is light as, (steering wheel is a bit flimsy) Quote

I'm not really up with corollas. as for the engine no its a 3.8l commodore. i don't think that rule applys here as i know this is a popullar conversion in a gemini and they weigh around 950ish which would make there max size of 2.85L Edited June 10, 2008 by rbfrog Quote

I have heard of Power steering racks from a Laser/Meteor being a possibility. Have you checked with your local engineer to make sure the rules don't apply? Reference link BTW... i'm very interested to see how it would fit without significant engine bay modification Edited June 10, 2008 by phife Quote

Ke20nut Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 Hey mate at least you go with your own idea. i have thought about the v6 also. if you want a brake kit that will fit, there is a place in melbourne in the west who has the kits made up. its not cheap but it all bolts up to the original mounting holes , no drilling or modifying required. the only requirement is u must have 15' rims so the caliper will clear the rim. They are called Hoppers Stoppers the kits start at 1200 bucks and up depending on the stlye of disc you go for . i will be fitting this kit to a ke10 myself, and putting a split master cylinder from a early nissan patrol and a vh44 booster. it should pull up on a 20 cent piece Quote
Ke20nut Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 hoppers stoppers does a brake kit that bolts straight to the existing mounting holes . its not cheap but its your life on those brakes . love this forum Quote
rbfrog Posted June 15, 2008 Author Report Posted June 15, 2008 sweet thanks for your help guys. Quote
D1doony Posted June 15, 2008 Report Posted June 15, 2008 (edited) with the money you spend on the rolla upgrading front and making shit custom to fit a v6 ecotec, buy a VLT and sick does burnouts, would probably put out as much smoke. don't waste the corolla. Edited June 15, 2008 by D1doony Quote
