hey guys, well as topic says the rolla wont start. ok well it woundnt start so first thing i checked was the starter motor i pulled it out and applied 12v to it and worked fine so i put it back on and the car started!! i drove it for about 20 min and i died on me while i was driving along. and now it wont start at all. when i turn the key to start it, it wont turn over at all i only hear a couple relay's switch and the 'brake' (not the hand brake) light will come on while I'm trying to start it. and i know its not the battery.

 

WTF is going on here guys

any help would be awesome!!

maybe tack started motor out again and apply 12v n see if it works?

then put it back then run threw every thing.

go over the hole car

eg fuses

all wiring

I get that after i've been driving for a while. not sure what it is but I'm gonna grab a circuit diagram and bypass that f@$ker.

mine was;t starting at all and wouldn;t turn over and the brake light was coming on....

 

turns out to be the alternator.... as the battary is brand spanking new.

 

 

you can do a voltage test on it if you know how..... if not

 

multi metet... have the car running chuck it on the termanals ( the bits that bolt onto the battary not the silver bits) look at the reading... mine was 10.4v .. give it a rev.. at about 300rpm or so it should kick up to around 13.8-14.2v or around there... if not .. alternator is stuffed. hence battary not getting charged and car wont start.

Those relays you hear clicking might not be relays, but the solenoid itself.

 

When they get old they often get crap in them that clags up and arcs can effectively weld (for want of a better word) the solenoid pin to the barrel, so that when you hit the key, the solenoid doesn't throw out. If the solenoid doesn't throw, the circuit for the motor itself doesn't close so it wont spin over.

 

Most likely when you pulled the motor out the solenoid was dislodged.

 

Try hitting the solenoid with a rubber mallet then start it. As for the lights coming on, most cars do that so you can see what globes are gone on the dash display.

Also, check your battery terminals are clean and tight. It may just be a bad earth.
