Hi Guys,

 

just wondering if someone could steer me in the right direction. I have a 91 corolla which has an aftermarket alarm system on it however sometime which when i press the central locking button, some doors won"t lock and vice versa, won't open. This problem is occuring specifically on my 2 rear doors.

 

is there a specific method that you have to position the motors? vertical? horizontal? because this is driving me insane!! no matter what i do, the motors work however the doors are not locking/unlocking.

 

Thus i was wondering if there was a tutorial which advises exactly how the motors are suppose to be positioned and hooked up.

 

any help or advise would be great!!!!

Firstly take the trim off and work the remote to see what the solenoids are doing.

The screws solenoids (motors) might be loose or you might have to re-position them so that the rods are more in line with where they connect to the door locks.

Or if all else fails see what a bit of dry lube on the door lock button and on the levers etc while do.

Might even have to widen the hole for the lock button.

i think that's my problem, as i don't know how to position the motors, i mean do the motors have to be in a specific position? or they can be in any position and you just have to mould the rods so that it would fit?

That don't have to be in a "specific" position as such. As long as their more-or-less in-line with the door lock. The rods can be molded to fit as long as the angles are not too sharp. Think of it like this - the more you bend the rod the more spring there is in it (basically when the door lock stops but the solenoid still keeps moving the bend in the rod will take up the extra movement and when the solenoid stops the bend in the rod will spring back and quite possibly unlocking the door or re-lock it)

its just that i've been trying every possible position and adjustments to the rods, yet they still don't work, and if they do work its only good for acouple of days until they play up again...... i just thought that there was a specific way that the motors had to be positioned.

 

but i much aprreciate your input, i guess its back to fiddling around and testing to get the right angle.

Yeah its about all you can do is just fiddle and test. Try to do it with out the trim in place that way you'll be able to see whats happening. If the problem stops it'll be a good chance its the hole for the lock knob

Try some WD40 or something on the lock knob and see how it goes. It was something that worked on my old '82 and after that i enlarged the hole a little.
