Calam05 Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Hey, i have a 93 corolla csi with a 4afe, the belts r really squeeky. it started off with only a slight squeal when i started it up in the morn. then moved onto heavy sqeual with the aircon on, and now when the steering wheel is at full lock as well. they all seem to go around the same pulley so maybe one affected the other?? well anyway my question is how do you tighten them to stop the squeal? and do i need to tighten them all or just one? my gf is taking her driving test in it real soon, so i just want nothing for the tester to pick on. thanks. Rolla Boy Posted March 15, 2009 Report Posted March 15, 2009 Sounds like they need to be adjusted or replaced if they're worn and cracked... Have a good look at them... If they have cracks on the inner V surfaces then replace them... If they're still ok, then you'll need to adjust them... To adjust them, loosen off the two mounting bolts off the alternator, power steering pump and the air con belt tensioner... Then you'll have to tighten the tensioner bolt and lever the pump and alternator and tighten the mounting bolts... Should be able to figure it out, just a pain as they're a bit tight to get to... Calam05 Posted March 15, 2009 Author Report Posted March 15, 2009 after tightening the tension bolt (only 1??), i have to lever the the pump and alt back into place to line up with the bolts cos it will be hard to get them bak into place cos of the new found tension? Quote
Rolla Boy Posted March 16, 2009 Report Posted March 16, 2009 Sorry dude, kinda hard to explain... The alternator belt and Power Steering Belt have to be adjusted the same way... Loosen off the two mounting bolts off each part... Using a lever bar off something solid, lever the alternator and power steering pump away from the block assy so the belt gets tighter... Hold the lever bar in place while you tighten up the mounting bolts for each... With the air conditioning belt, loosen off the tensioner nut... Tighten the tensioner bolt until the belt is tight enough... Tighten up the nut and you're all done... Hope that makes it a bit easier for you :P ... Quote
