kiahn Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) which metal is better when buying a surge tank? i can get a alloy one for 50 bux less but I'm worried bout corroding, the stainless one I'm looking at has a bracket for fuel pump and is polished for $140 any advice apprecciated Edited July 21, 2009 by kiahn Quote
philbey Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 In the circumstances both will be fine. I wouldn't worry about either corroding, you're filling them both with a solvent anyway. Remember that factory tanks can last 40 years and generally wont have corrosion issues if they're always wet. Aluminium is lighter. Both can be polished. What grade of stainless is it? 316 will come up very nicely Quote
kiahn Posted July 21, 2009 Author Report Posted July 21, 2009 these are the 2 i was looking at, btw the steel is 304 alloy: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ally-surge-tank-with...93%3A1|294%3A50 steel: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Polished-Stainless-...93%3A1|294%3A50 Quote
kiahn Posted July 21, 2009 Author Report Posted July 21, 2009 alright ive decided to go with the stainless as it will probably look a lot better 6 months from now also it's made in aus by aussies so might as well spend the extra and support aus business cheers philbey Quote
philbey Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 Yeh 304 will do just fine. You can get find that sometimes lower grade stainless' do rust (304 etc) but it's highly unlikely in your car boot! Quote
kiahn Posted July 21, 2009 Author Report Posted July 21, 2009 well they do custom jobs so you can basically ask for anything and they give you price. Quote
