Rolliac Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 Hi I just did a dumb thing (I do that a lot). I took me ignition coil off and didn’t take note of where the wires connect. Well it’s just one wire actually. The wire is black with a yellow strip. I believe it goes to the ignition but don’t know where it connects to the coil. Positive, negative or the resistor? the car is a KE11 Any help much appreciated. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 2, 2009 Report Posted August 2, 2009 It comes from the little terminal on the side of the dizzy yeah? If so it goes to the negative side of the coil. Quote
Rolliac Posted August 3, 2009 Author Report Posted August 3, 2009 Thanks mate. The wire comes from the ignition barrel. I’m learning how to use my multi meter. My mate tells me if the wire produces say 12v when ignition is turned on then the wire should connect to the positive side of the coil. Well if I’ve used my multi meter right it produced 11.9v. Don’t know if I trust my mate and certainly don’t trust my multi meter skills. Man I always learn lessons the hard way. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Ah no, it not the wire from the dizzy then. Its either the "on" or "start" power, but from memory its the "on". If you get 12v (11.9 is close enough) with the key on "on" then this goes to the ballast resistor. If you get 12v while having the key on "start" the it goes directly to the + side of the coil. This enables the coil to run at 12v to assist starting, but then runs at 6v (through the ballast resistor) the rest of the time while the engine is running. Quote
