rob83ke70 Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 Hey, just wondering if anybody can help, I am curious as to know the weight of a toyota corona (or similar) 4x114.3pcd 14" steel rim, compared to the factory 14" alloy rim (on corona, tarago, celica etc). Curious as to how much different they are, I've heard that steel rims *can* be lighter than factory alloys sometimes... Robert. Quote
philbey Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 yeh it's probably correct that steelies can be lighter than aluminium. Steel is about 7.8 tonne/m^3 and Al is about 3.3 tonne/m^3, but you need to consider that there can be a lot more material in an aluminium wheel compared to a steel one. Good, well engineered aluminium wheels, no, but factory ones are sometimes pretty beefy. As for a conclusive answer, I can't say. Quote
