I'm interested in doing this sort of conversion as well - & it is a lot of work, but doable. one of the guys i used to work with put a ls400 rear end into his alfa gtv (got the 1uz at the front too) so it was basically the same sort of thing as you are talking about.

 

you might also want to look at corona/ ra65 irs rear ends as well - you might find them a bit simpler than the s13 rear end

It could be done, depending on how much patients you have, how good you're fab skills are and if you have the right tools available. I have a mate who has converted his Datsun stanza (live axel) to datsun 180b IRS. And also another mate who has a Datsun 1600 with s13 rear end.

Good on you for being different, don't listen to the haters saying don't do it because it looks too hard.

1600 to S13 IRS probably isn't that difficult in comparison to these other jobs, the two cars even run the same family of diff, 20 years later.

 

It's been done, it's doable, get into it fingers and post lots of pictures.
