  1. i bought some "toyota" rav4 ones off ebay many years ago for mine (think i paid $60 and the girl even delivered them!). very useful accessory. luckily racks fit the wifes rx350 as well......
  2. its got tein ha's in it - but i plan on keeping those for the corolla. try trade-me in nz for springs its been sitting now for 16 months so no major hurry. still awaiting my big shed to put everything into. doubt you'd get the screen out and transport it to tas unbroken to be honest! T
  3. pretty sure we put a kenwood in ours many years ago. just single din one though. will be wrecking out the whole car. initial plan is to keep some of the suspension, floorpan & rear diff assembly for ae92 awd corolla project. so complete black interior will be available. even roof if you want it! very good condition but drivers seat does have a little wear on edge of seat not surprisingly on basically 20 year old car!. cars a bit hard to get to right now so may take a while to get pics - especially as its full of tr7 and mini parts as well! just got permit for big shed so early next year should be able to pull apart. this is what it basically looks like. sort of drivable.....
  4. no - n spec 246 had the recaros (next shape, auto only) mine is a 1% of production model - manual, with factory sunroof. black interior. genuine 103k on in (we got it with genuine 36k on it 10 years ago) most of car will be available when i get around to wrecking it. (rh front damage) stereo upgrade most important. aerial is not too good in these either. not a hell of a lot you can do about that though.
  5. wow how about that. nearly a year since my last post. well I m still alive and married and still have the project cars. soon to have a "proper" sized shed to put everything in so I can actually do something with these things too...…..
  6. great car. somewhat of a sleeper. fyi I have a 2000 update one of these sitting in the front yard. was my daily for years until I smashed it. will eventually be dismembering it. update has the black interior - if you get sick of that two tone blue and grey interior!
  7. Ok - didn't want to do this but no real choice now. Due to relationship breakdown both my car projects are to be sold off. Ke25 project tr7 v8 Convertible project not sure what will happen to the mini awd 4efte setup or the ke20 at this stage. prefer to sell each project complete, but may separate the tr7 setup due to the type of car & parts it has (vvti 1uz etc) - is on a rotisserie too. Will list up whats included in each project shortly. (ke25 has all the rare bits - long console, tacho dash, center gauges, new dash top, update grill & indicators, simmons rims, recaro seats etc)
  8. i am still alive, however no progress has been made on the ke25. Too many other things getting in the way with life - family - kids, house renos etc. The fleet has grown bigger as I've now inherited my dads mgb (one owner car) & recently bought back my wifes old corolla sx (the car we met over) used to look like this: now looks like this: sad what 10 years of neglect can do. can't get the zender body kit any more so i'm modifying a ms design front spoiler to fit - another long term project....
  9. setup will be the same bar the pulley on the compressor - easy to find a 4age type compressor though T
  10. fyi: here's the sx add: & the bugger add: never seen the "grunter" add again - 99% sure it was for the 100kw "SX" "more grunt" (grunter was a pig by the way)
  11. I've had the engine for the ke25 almost as long as I've had the car - being a bit of a scrounger, I managed to dig up all the bits I needed for my 4agte conversion from bits that were lying around at my old work, at home or just from classified ads on forums. Generally not the smartest way to put together an engine, but as I have lead myself to believe I know what I'm doing, I manage it all pretty cheaply. Block is ae111, crank ae93, head ae93, pistons & rods ae101, efi system is ae101. There, simple. done. Um no - being me (no one else would want to be me) I could not leave anything stock standard could I? I got all the basic engine machining done a few years ago (by calculation about 7 years ago!!!) then it pretty much all stood on an engine stand whilst home extensions were carried out, kids came along, then got packed up when we moved to the new place....(house was perfect, just had no land for 3 kids to play in - totally my fault the move - came home from work one day & told the wife I had a conversation with one of the managers at the main factory & he used to live in the same suburb we lived in & 12 months ago had moved down the peninsula & said it was the best thing he had ever done for the lifestyle. We then realized that our oldest started school the next year & if we were ever going to move now was the time. My wife is like a bull at a gate when she gets something in her head, so that was that, we were moving) A few months ago I got a job from one of the directors here at work to build him a hot 4age for a project car of his, so my motor conversion got dug up out of the storage container, (mostly because I needed the engine stand it was attached too!) Once the hot 4age had been built (cams, trd head gasket, arp bolts, light weight flywheel, dellorto carbs etc) I had a little bit of time so I thought I'd have a look at the block & head (I had to do some porting on that hot 4age, so I had all the equipment out) (useless bit of trivia - I've built quite a few 4age's (mostly for other people) & I found that there were 2 casting plants for 4age blocks (2 different sequences of engine numbers) I have no idea if one casting plant made a better block than the other) 4age blocks are generally pretty good, I've only ever once found a partially obstructed oil drain in a 4age block - my block also had an obstruction. Quickly cleared with a old screwdriver & hammer. I decided I'd race prep the block (because I can) & the plan was that eventually the ke20 & ke25 (we have one of each I'm building up) would end up doing some club sprints etc (hopefully before the girls are old enough to drive) So inside of block was all ground to remove casting dags & marks, oil paths all smoothed over. Plan is to glyptol the inside of the block once I find the time to wash down the block & paint it (as block & head have been finished for some months now) Since the plan is to track the car I thought I might as well fit an oil restrictor to the head as well. Pretty easy mod to carry out whilst the motor is apart. I'm using a 8mm brass grub screw here, carefully modified in the lathe to have a countersink on the underside to minimize oil drag The head supposedly came from an aus built ae93 sx corolla (we've had a few of them over the years) came from toymods & was close to my work, complete & cheap! (great combination) However this head is the first 4age head I've ever seen with an obstructed oil gallery - most unusual. Anyway, quickly fixed with the hammer & screwdriver method! I decided to clean up all the casting dags off the inside of the head as they always annoy me catching crap in the head & tearing your gloves when you are shimming the head, or trying to capture that escaped collet!!. A few minutes work with a die-grinder resulted in a very nicely internally finished head. Then I started on the ports - I made the ports the same size as the gaskets (forced induction motor - don't need to go silly, just a quick cleanup is all that's required) removed all casting marks & smoothed it all internally to the back of the valves. TRD bible has a tiny section on combustion chamber prepping so I'll follow their recommendations there. Hopefully somewhere in the next few years I'll get around to actually assembling the motor...... Over the past couple of days I've managed to empty out both the ke20 & 25 (had them packed with all their parts in storage) Found most items - still a few things missing - probably in the wrong boxes. The racking in the shed is pretty much full. I'll have to do a final pass shortly where I go right through the boxes and sort everything by car, & then group everything on the racks - that will make it much easier to find everything. I'm working on the tr7 body & suspension right now - as that car actually requires the least amount of work to complete out of all the car projects (ie is the least modified) Awaiting reply from the engineer as to his recommendations for the upper arm mod I'd like to do on the diff (parallel upper arms & watts link) & also on how I planned to mount up the narrowed s13 subframe into the back of the ke25 & finally - most of you are prob too young to know who this is: You might notice that he has a Toyota logo on his ear - yup, it's a Toyota dog. Toyota's advertising in the '90's was much more "fun" - the "sx corolla" adds showed the hatch back drag racing a xb gt351, the series of hilux adds were a hoot (still do those adds in NZ by the way) but some fuddy-duddy complained about one of the "umbilical brothers" adds - the "bar nun" one (one of the umbilical brothers dressed as a nun being hit over the head with a bar), so that killed off that type of adds from Toyota totally. The dog is "bugger dog" - from one of the hilux adds, showing typical aussie humor where everything was breaking (bar the hilux), hence the "bugger" tag. Toyota actually produced a number of soft toys at the time of their adds - there was: bugger dog camel road runner grunter chook. bugger dog, camel & road runner all belong to my wife - she's had them for years (actually got brighton Toyota to order them in for her)
  12. Been a while between updates....... Well after 26 months in storage (!!) the corolla's finally made it home this week (I needed the container they were in to store work stuff) And I wonder how many people will know who this is: Next job is to build a rotisserie so I can look at mounting up the rear end
  13. ah well this is where making bits off different cars fit where they were never intended sometimes pays off. find a mitsubishi l300 van. pull the cluster. There's your plugs. easy to find
  14. Well it's been 6 months since my last update. So what's been happening? Not a lot on the car front. This is where the ke's are (still): All tucked away out of harms way in a 40' shipping container I have been allowed to use at work (we "only" have 12 20' containers & 2 40' containers here.....). Shortly to come home though. Had to reconfigure the shed at the new place (put in by previous owners at great expense - have all the paperwork & still can't see how they spent over $30k on it!!....) - it originally had been built with a carport at the front. I have now enclosed it. Loads of dramas doing it though - colorbond has discontinued the color the shed is, & strammit has no old stock, then I found a company with some old stock sheet, but they don't do a strammit profile... yay. Took a while but it now is a usable 12.5 x6 m shed. Bairly big enough for my projects though..... This is what it looks like at the front now: Inside still needs some work (benche to be finished, storage & front section of floor still to be painted) All electricals are done though. Tr7 project car has already made its way home....(got kicked out of that container 2 weeks ago) Side view of "tiny" shed. One must cope with what one has I guess The shipping container is what we put all our belongings in as we were homeless for 6 weeks. It will be shortly moved up against the pool enclosure & turned into a pool house / storage. Container turned out to be a great investment. Also has a hardwood floor, which is a bonus. Really need to finish inside of shed & paint floor, but have too many other house things on the go (updating laundry, replacing hot water tank with new unit, cleaning up garden, getting pool redone) & one of the directors here at work is starting to make sounds about his lack of rebuilt 4age for his project car..... One day soon I will actually get to work on my '25! Wife might even be able to do something on her '20 before the kids are old enough to drive! :)
  15. looks great! used to be ake25 in vic that got raced all the time that was silver with te27flares (also silver) - boy it looked good!. It was one of the reasons bought my ke25
  16. Hi Parrot New place should be good - plenty of space (ie more car projects) I must say I'm amazed how much stuff I have in the garage - over the past couple of months I have been progressively packing & bringing in stuff to work (I have lots of shipping containers here I can hide stuff in) Just stuff from the garage alone would have 1/2 filled a shipping container so far, & I think I'm about 1/2 way through! getting a 20' shipping container delivered home next week - I'm hopeful that is big enough for the rest of our stuff! (& we have been selling / thowing stuff we don't need as well at every opportunity) We initially thought it was the agent filming themselves, but when we asked them, they said it had nothing to do with them - with some research we found it was ch10 & then contacted them to get a copy of the footage (its only about 30seconds long, but hey, its our house!) not that they could have refused to give us a copy either actually, as they did not have our permission to film the property - it was an auction, (supposedly "public event") but I did pay for it, & they did come through the house & film inside, which is our private property.
  17. Well been a little while since last update... House is finished & sold rather well at auction (it was even featured in some channel10 property program - would have been nice if they even bothered to ask if they could come through the house & film it & the auction, but whats done is done) We blew the ceiling for the street by $240k, so that was good! New property has been bought - 7/8 acre, pool, gardens etc (keep kids & wife happy with things to do) large attached 2 car garage (big enough to put 2 hoists in!) & 4 car shed (easily modified to 6 car - which will happen fairly quickly) so now that part is done. Big mess moving cars & stuff around as we have a 6 week period when we are basically homless, so everything goes into shipping containers. ke20 & ke25 went for a drive yesterday They are now hidden away in a 40' container at work until we have access to the new property...
  18. Plan is to knock a few out. Also plan on remaking the whole "te27" centre consol, once I have figured out the problem we are having with the release agent (its melting the mottled plastic surface of the part) seems to be specific to the type of plastic - but being 40 years old its going to be difficult to find out exactly what it is, & I don't want to ruin one of my centre consols making the mould!
  19. Well not much to report as every spare instant is being spent on finishing off the house. Have managed to organise purchase of a 20ft container ($1600) & storage space to keep it (immediatly to be filled with surplus house stuff, but later car crap) plan is to use container to transport all house stuff to new location, then be used as storage shed Managed to finish off the mould for the te27 centre console clock/radio piece. I noticed that most of the consoles coming up for sale now seem to be missing this part, so i'm sure i'll be able to sell a few to offset the amount of time it took to make the mould No other car work has been done. Need to relocate tr7 as its in the way - will try & hide it with the new container......
  20. I fitted a ta22 booster & pedal box to my car - there are pics in my build thread (not very clear or detailed though) http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/68457-my-ke25-4agte-irs-project/
  21. We looked into a awd conversion on LADYSX as there really wasn't anything else we could have done to the car & traction was a problem. I actually have the chassis diagrams detailing the differences between the ae92& ae95 (not many differences actually) & st185 floorpans & what parts needed to be modified to it an irs rear (instead of the ae95 live axle) however we ended up selling the car as it didn't work with kids. would still like to do the conversion one day though
  22. Hi Trev, Driveway queen / wreck right now!! It has a usa hardtop on it. (only one in aus i believe) z31 300zx front struts, z32 front brakes rn41 hilux diff with lsd koni inserts, adjustable front & rear suspension modifying shell to have parallel upper & lower rear suspension arms & watts link recaros s13 steering column roh pro sprint 15 x 7 wheels supra ma70 abs system late 1uz vvti v8 with supra w57, cro/mol flywheel etc Basically have almost every part for it, but no time. started on rust repairs, but thats about it. have a build thread on a uk forum, but its a membership only forum & its now not accepting new members either.
  23. only one plastic stake at the bottom - used a dremel to take off the lip & it came right apart
  24. they have one of them as well! (they have about 50 "matchbox" cars) certain ones are seen as being more valuable than others (from day to day)
  25. Well no real car progess to speak off - every spare moment is being spent on the house - basically really want to get the house on the market by end of november ideally, & there is a lot of things to be done. Have already looked at 3 potential houses in the area we want to live in, & rejected all of them. & just for fits & giggles - its my oldest daughters birthday next month (she will be five) & for some reason she, & her sister have become literally obsessed with mini's - no idea why, we certainly have not encouraged this to happen. Her favourite colour is pink, so I thought I'd make her a "special" for her birthday. Since her sister is 3, she does not yet get that birthdays are just for one person, so she will have to get something as well, so 2 "specials" were required! So start with 2 limited edition "hot wheels" mini cars (It's all i could find at the time) Poor little thing, it does not know whats about to happen!! Dissasemble, & start by masking up the roll cage (yes it does have one) all prepped & ready for paint! (& yes that is real carbon fibre its sitting on) Chassis all detailed Paint shop in operation. (painted in 2K) New record! 2 cars stripped, prepped & painted in one day!! :) All finished & ready to drive!! Hopefully they will be appreciated & not destroyed in one day. (If only it was that easy to do the corollas!!)
