  1. ah yes there was also a ta22 gt celica wasn't there!...........
  2. I know of one genuine car (that I have actually seen in the flesh) that lives in Vic. I have heard about a light blue ex jap consulate car (no pics) which was supposedly imported new in around 1972 & I know for sure that one other "genuine" car here was built out of a 1/2 cut (the one parrot referred to), as I spoke to the importer who sold the 1/2 cut (I remember seeing the 1/2 cut sitting on top of a container in his yard) & he confirmed who bought it off him (& know that individual sold off a "genuine" car later) there was a dark blue car for sale in WA a month ago or so that was supposed to be the real deal too. Bit hard to verify though.
  3. you know what - this thread was about fitting a 2gr into a ke70, not about your engineering prowess in 2gr conversion into sw20's. you are too good for me, I must know nothing fyi there is no engine mount kit to fit a 3sge into an aw11 (plus i did the conversion about 10 years ago). & the 6 speed & sc14 does not just bolt into a aw11 either, but since you know everything, you would already be aware of that. oh in relation to #3 - what did I achieve? well since I actually build the car, I think I achieved a fair bit. give this thread back to timmo on his ke70 conversion, which is what my origional post was about - since I had a setup I was converting to rwd, I know what issues he was going to face (sorry about all this crap mate, I won't be posting in this thread again)
  4. mate I have not done a 2gr into an mr2. (my 2gr converison I sold went into one though) following conversions I have done on mr2's: 3sge into aw11 1mz into aw11 4agze sc14 w/ w2a, 6 speed (with 1/2 shafts) into aw11 fyi I fitted the 2gr w/ 6 speed manual into the new bolwell nagari - somewhat more difficult than your mr-s I think...... Pretty sure MWR does engine mounts for your car though. Its certainly been done by them before
  5. I never used any 1gr parts. I have used a non-aus spec 6 speed fwd box to mid mount a 2gr. rwd 2gr is actually quite a lot more work.
  6. thats not thinking outside the box - thats an easy conversion. its still basically running in a fwd setup. make it a 6 speed manual - i've done it!
  7. I was going to fit a 2gr into my is200 - went as far as getting all the parts. The motor is fairly tall, but with sump mods & modified inlet manifold I think it would fit in an ae71. I fitted a 3sge into an ae86 & there was plenty of room. Mate of mine years ago fitted a 1uz into his ae86, so with some patience & time it can be done, I was using a j160 3sge (altezza) box & bellhousing & it bolted right up. you need a 1mz or 3vz flywheel. The starter setup will be a bit of work. I got a fwd camry gearbox section & a rebuilt 1.4kw sw20 starter motor - you need to position the starter under the exhaust manifold on the pasenger side. I have the starter & bellhousing segment if you want to buy it. I also have a second hand extreme h/d paddle clutch & cover that will go onto the 1mz etc flywheel. suggest you look at using supra w57/58 gearbox with slightly modified hilux y series bellhousing. & then your next issue will be sump (I was going to use modified 3sge altezza sump grafted onto aurion sump) & then there is the efi.... factory setup is quite smart, but immobilser is an issue - you need all the parts to set it up. (igniton key, barrel, immobiliser box & ecu) can be rekeyed as long as you have all the other parts pm me if you want more info Toby
  8. nope its too wide you can find adaptor engine mounts for the ke20 x-member though - guy in nz makes them (look on trade-me)
  9. the te27 / ke25 replica flares i sell will fit the ke30 as well with minor mods T
  10. it can be done, i did a lot of research into this a while ago. you'd need a ae95 gearbox, a gt4 gearbox, gt4 rear diff assembly & rear body section. not for the fainthearted, but possible in japan there is a 4x4 corolla sedan - the earlier ae90 series cars do run the ae95 type diff - which would be a bit crude, but easier than doing the irs conversion T
  11. stupid. dumb. complete wast of time ruined 3 perfectly good classic cars. if they wanted to do something really entertaining & newsworthy i'll get them a browning 9mm with 3 bullets in it so they can play russian roulette.
  12. typical uninformed government crap trying to win over votes & trying to keep the car manufacturing unions etc happy. i used to work for BHP & i can tell you that very few people have any idea on the amount of pollution produced to manufacture steel, let alone all the plastics, paints & electronics used in new cars!! they carry on about a new car producing "X" less pollution out of it's exhaust - a 20 year old corolla with a not very healthy cat, run for the next 20 years will produce less than 1/2 the pollution that you'd get from producing ONE new car (that has ~1/2 the exhaust emissions of the corolla, therefore keeping the gay pink wales happy) total misinformation. maybe they should look at the exponential pollution in india & china from heavy industry & realize that on a global scale we are a drop in a bucket (but that does not win votes does it!) US "cash for clunkers" worked on a MPG system - you know some idiot dumped his rx8 on a new car!! but it did help to remove a lot of v8 POS's off their roads of course our system would not be so generous (don't want to waste too much money on voters now do we!! just enough to make it back into power & then the scheme will run out of cash & be buried), nor does it consider the long-term issues it will help create - the population is being pushed towards smaller, highly efficient cars (none which are built in australia, bar the hybrid camry which is basically a locally assembled jap kit) all the imports will certainly not help our balance of trade deficit, or our local car manufacturers - however hybrid cars create their own batch of problems!! got any idea on the pollution caused making the trick batteries that the hybrids run on? never mind the fact that every 7-10 years you need to replace the battery pack (huge expense & recycling issues) odd are in 10-15 years the hybrid cars will be uneconomical lemons.
  13. got a standard ae86 one sitting in the engine bay right now. too wide other options to be explored: mazda 626 rwd ford laser kb type suzuki vitara all look possible - but some will need tank mods.
  14. fyi standard rad, re-cored to triple core with bottom outlet mover to other side (to suit 4age) have been quoted between $250-300 T
  15. peter, i have put both camry & excel radiators into ae86's in the past. i have a stock ae86 radiator at home & it is too big for the 25. might just have to take measurements & go wondering around the wreckers i guess!! thanks anyway T
  16. Hi Guys, In the process of putting together a ke25 with 4agte motor & wondering about upgraded radiators. having looked around it seems that mazda rx3/4/7 radiators could & have been retrofitted - the water pipes are in the right places & dimensionally it's pretty close. anyone have any experience with these radiators? or alternative units?? any help greatly appreciated T
  17. clips are very hard to find second-hand. same as t40 type box. if buying secondhand make sure they supply you the right parts - i've been supplied supra parts as t50 in the past (they don't fit) best bet is to prob buy new - if toyota still stock them T
  18. speak to parrot - that's who grabbed my motor & box. T
  19. Oversteer, great on the engineer, however be aware that engineers & rta often do not see things the same way. often it pays to keep quiet about some things (from experience) fiy mini was mid-engined. why are you getting the wiring lom cut down? it basically has everything in it you would need for your '20 - & is a bloody neat loom. i can supply you wiring diagrams if you want? are you referring to the ke20 box? i recently gave a motor & box away......... T
  20. breather pipes for the s/c. see attached vac diagram
  21. I'm interested in doing this sort of conversion as well - & it is a lot of work, but doable. one of the guys i used to work with put a ls400 rear end into his alfa gtv (got the 1uz at the front too) so it was basically the same sort of thing as you are talking about. you might also want to look at corona/ ra65 irs rear ends as well - you might find them a bit simpler than the s13 rear end T
  22. old customer of mine put a bussa into a mini (race car only) & my boss is building a formula car hillclimber using a bussa motor. both utilise a chain drive to exposed diff center (look up Radical racecars etc) - it would not be too difficult to convert it to shaft drive but getting a diff of the appropriate ratio will be interesting also - quaife make a reverser box for bike engines. (they make a gearbox assembly as well) expect to pay around $3k for the reverser box though. i know of 3 bike engined vehicles registered in australia - I i think you will be very hard pressed getting this bike through as the engine is not emissioned for a car - & that is the important part. 2 are prb clubmans (slipped through a loophole, which was shut shortly after they were registered) 3rd is a caterham blackbird. (personal import) other issue you may have is to do with oiling - sump design is less than optimum for a car. Don't want to dampen you enthusiasm, but you have created a very difficult project. suggest you speak to rego people in your state as to weather this can be registered (& get it in writing if they say it can!!!) - no point in building an awesome weapon if you can't register it. may be simpler to fit 3sgte etc into your ke20 - pretty straightforward in comparison to a bike engine! T
  23. we used to use a camry (cv21 i think) cable. i believe ae82 will work as well T
  24. ok i can't do this conversion for you as i'm in vic, however it is fairly straightforward. you need to find a written off sx or a motor conversion from a sx corolla. you could get lucky & find one in a pick-a-part for about $200, but you are more likely to have to buy one from an importers for ~$1200. (& then source all the missing bits) then the fitting - if you can't fit it yourself, expect to pay a "professional" around $100 an hour to fit. then to finish it off legally, you should get it engineered - but that part is up to you. depending on the block on your 4ag, you may need to do some minor mods to the bellhousing, later blocks do not need any mods. suggest you look at toymods or twincam etc & see if you can find someone local to you prepaired to help you with your conversion T
  25. te72 with efi 2tg (very rare, esp in aus) runs a baffled efi tank - that will bolt into a ae86. another option is to get the efi pump & the plastic baffle from an efi tank fitted into your ae86 tank - speak to your local radiator place & see if they will do this for you (it involves steaming clean the tank then cutting it open to fit the efi pump - some won't do it) T
