Chief Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) Hey guys i just completed my head gasket on a 5k but when i did it does it have to be timed in or anything like that? I just thought i would ask before i start the engine before i break it lol I just called toyota about a 5k fuel pump and they want 126.00 for one and thats a bit pricey for me lol do you guys know of anywhere i can get one cheaper or will a modded 4k one work? Cheers guys Edited June 9, 2010 by Chief Quote
philbey Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 No need to mod a 4K one at all, just grab one from a wrecker and chuck it on. Make sure you get the spacer!! There is a phenolic spacer that goes between the block and pump and you must have this installed. You should just be able to throw the motor back together and get it going again, unless you pulled the dizzy out. Quote
Chief Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 Muahahaha the engine is almost done thanks philbey Yea no dizzy pulling for me thankgod and yeahh i thought they might be the same because scotts auto didnt have a listing for a 5k only 4k and 7ke thanks heaps man Quote
Taz_Rx Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Being hydro lifters you don't even have to adjust.... or re-check the tappets either. :) Quote
philbey Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 (edited) Actually one thing that you need to do is check your lifter preload; if you've had the head skimmed only slightly I dare say you will be fine, but it's a worthwhile thing to check. Edited June 9, 2010 by philbey Quote
Chief Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 ooo whats lifter preload? if you mean the preload on the lifters from the rods they all seem to be in there snug nothing falling out. Cheers taz and philbey Quote
philbey Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Your lifters will compress a certain amount when everything is bolted up. You need to make sure the preload is about the 1.5mm mark, It's a simple process but it takes a bit of trial and error to get the hang of it. Google "set lifter preload" and you will find out the deal. Crow cams or Crane cams (can't remember) have an article on it. Quote
Chief Posted June 10, 2010 Author Report Posted June 10, 2010 ahhh ok when i put the head back on i just put the rods into the tappet (what i think are tappets) and just torqued down ill google it now Quote
