Hi all,

Recently some scumbag screwdrivered my girlfriend's AE112 Corolla's (hatch) fuel door open in an attempt to siphon out some fuel. He was unsuccessful but managed to mangle the fuel door in the process, and snap off the small locking mechanism as well. I've bought a second hand fuel door and am looking for tips on how to fit it.

The door assembly appears riveted to the body, but I'd like to avoid drilling out the rivets and re-rivetting if possible. Upon closer inspection the door's hinge is a long pin with a 90deg bend on the end, but the bent bit is tucked under some metal on the inside of the fuel door. Can this pin be turned so that the pin can be pulled down and out, releasing the door but leaving the rest of the assembly on the body?

I also need to replace the locking mechanism, and heard you need to go in through the boot to get to it. I don't need to replace the cable, just the lock part next to the fuel door. I'm really needing some pointers on this as all the Haynes manuals and other internet resources don't even touch on any of the fuel door parts or release cable.

Any help much appreciated!
