ancullen Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 Okay, so the Corolla won't be ready due to clutch/gearbox issues. So I'm probably going to take the Galant down (with a few mods, snigger snigger) unless I can borrow either my fiancee's Starlet (still in rally spec) or her brother's Commodore (not likely). I'll be down at the track from about 9am so if you come down, come and say hello. I'll probably be in the pit garage crying over damage I've done to the Galant and how slow it goes. On a completely different topic: FOR SALE: 1990 Mitsubishi Galant. Only driven on Sundays... Quote
Sirolla[RL] Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 (edited) Koolies, i want to go on the track for a bit of fun and get a lap sprint time. That'll be wicked. But i work 8am to 8pm days on Saturdays... =) I'll prob be there around 10ish, so i'm sure i'll see you there this time ancullen. Last time i parked near the starting line If not, PM me ur number so i can contact you or some sort. hopefully the weber and exhaust will be in by Friday. Edited August 24, 2005 by Sirolla Quote
ancullen Posted August 27, 2005 Author Report Posted August 27, 2005 Racing is on Sunday (tomorrow). I'll PM you my number right after I've finished this message. I won't be taking the Galant either, as it is an unreliable piece of shit so I'm going to go car shopping on Monday for a current model, second-hand Corolla :D. I figured that as a moderator of RollaClub, I should probably actually drive a Corolla. In other news, I'm currently sitting here waiting for a new member to show up at my house to collect his stickers. I met him today at AutoBarn while getting a battery with my mate with the Torana, as I noticed he was driving a nice sounding AE82. It's got a 4A-C and cut springs, but he seems damn enthusiastic, and there was another bloke with him who has a 1.3L Echo for which he has sent away for a turbo manifold from Japan, so he's getting a sticker as well!!! RollaClub is finally starting to expand in the NT!!! :D :) Quote
ancullen Posted August 27, 2005 Author Report Posted August 27, 2005 BTW, racing starts at 10am. If you want to enter, I'd be there by 8.30am to be safe. Quote
Sirolla[RL] Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 (edited) Cheers Adam. Though won't be racing, and probably won't stay for long as I'm on afternoon shift at work! :D But i'll seeya there around 10. Guess i'm looking for the starlet in the parking lot. Oh yeah, great to hear more NT rollaclub members. Make sure they have a computer, interenet access and have bookmarked http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index.php?showforum=31 so they can post up on the NT board as it seems the only posting here is you. I'm l33t at creating new posts. :D Edited August 27, 2005 by Sirolla Quote
ancullen Posted August 29, 2005 Author Report Posted August 29, 2005 Sirolla, it seems that only you and I bother to post regularly on RollaClub (as far as NT members go). Lenard (formally of Bridge Toyota) doesn't come on here much, and the only other NT person to sign up online was LIL-RKT who has since been banned. BTW, it was great to finally meet you, can't wait to get a cruise happening (now I've bought a road registerable Rolla :rocknroll:). As to the race meet, it went well, I set a new PB for the Starlet (1:40.8) and managed not to hit a wall when I spun out for a second time (it was close though, almost hit the wall in reverse :P ). Can't wait to take Lola out once I get her running though. Quote
Sirolla[RL] Posted August 29, 2005 Report Posted August 29, 2005 yeh, you too man. Nice! You've managed to shred another second off your previous best lap time :P I'm thinkin about bringin mine out to the last 'free' meet and do a lap time in mine just for a bit of fun on the track. I'll see if i can get my mates who knows that creamy 20v to jump on here. And maybe ask them at the next dragstrip meet. oh yeah, don't forget about the white rollaclub stickers, is there a size smaller than the one i got from you, like the one on the starlet? That'll be perfect along the bottom window of my hatch :rocknroll: Quote
ancullen Posted August 29, 2005 Author Report Posted August 29, 2005 No, all the Rollaclub stickers are the same size. I know that some people have removed the 'www.' and just have 'rollaclub.com' on their rear door windows. But I would have thought they would peel when someone winds the window down. I'll ask Nick about getting some stickers sent up here. Quote
Sirolla[RL] Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 oh oks, i think they just look bigger in real life, haha. Quote
ancullen Posted August 30, 2005 Author Report Posted August 30, 2005 Nick if you could send me another pack of stickers that'd be great. I've still got a few yellow ones and a few orange, so if you could send me mostly white (as they're most popular by far) and a couple of pink that'd be great. I can't wait to put my chrome ones on my new Corolla. They should look sweet with the metallic black paintwork (they're going on the windows, but obviously you'll see the paint just above them). ancullen Posted September 1, 2005 Author Report Posted September 1, 2005 Here are some pics from the race meet: Pretty sure I'm going backwards in this shot. Fairly reasonable racing line on this corner. Pretty sure it's the sweeper, so third gear, foot flat to the floor if you're feeling gutsy. Came out a bit wide (to the right of picture), put the two left wheels on ripple strip and found myself doing a 270 and pointing this way. The worst part was I'd been chasing down an EB Ford XR8 and I was doing pretty well at catching him through the corners (not down the straight though). Hug that curb. Check out the bodyroll in most shots. At one point I was being followed by the guy driving the black FTO, and he came up to me afterwards to congratulate me for giving him such a good show of the underside of the car. Turns out the Starlet had been cocking the inside rear wheel on just about every corner - lifting that wheel up to a foot off the ground!!! WANTED: STIFF rear sway bar for Starlet. Quote
Sirolla[RL] Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Excellent pics man. That really does look fun being on the track :angrybird: :D i can source a whiteline rear sway bar kit for about $250. Not the cheapest(or is it?) but i know where to get decent parts. I might need to get myself some shockies and struts before tackling the corners. Quote
ancullen Posted September 3, 2005 Author Report Posted September 3, 2005 Nah, all the pics are watermarked. Unless I decide to splurge and spend the $8.00 a pic the photographer was asking. I'll think about it, but it probably won't be for a few weeks as all my dollars will be being spent on the new Corolla (and her insurance). Check out www.x-pozd.com if you want to consider purchasing. It also has other pics from the race meet. Just go into the Northern Territory Events section, then go HQ Nationals, then Lap Sprints. There's only 44 pics to look at. Unfortunately there weren't any of the only car I beat (an RA61 Celica driven by a P-plater). Quote
