crunk81us Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Got a 3k head today, the only number on it is 17, had a look here: http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?title=Tech:Engine/K_Series/Heads It's not listed. Anybody know what i have got? Quote
Andy43 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 Measure the inlet port, and post a pix of combustion chamber and valve gear, I should be able to sus out from there. Andy Quote
crunk81us Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Measure the inlet port, and post a pix of combustion chamber and valve gear, I should be able to sus out from there. Andy It's all in pieces and not complete, also been told it's been ported and polished. intake port measures about 30mm, intake valve 35mm. by valve gear, you mean the rockers etc? there is not much of that there. Was told it has k line inserts as well.. what are they? Its just a head from a bunch of parts i got.. I have started collecting stuff :D Edited November 15, 2010 by crunk81us Quote
crunk81us Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 found this: "From what I can see all the exhaust valves are the same diameter , but, there are 2 sizes of intake valves . The small one is approx.33.8 mm , the larger is 35.9 mm. I have taken note of the differant valve sizes , in relation to the number stamped on the head. This will help determine valve size ,with out having to take the head off to look. In the following chart "B" stands for Big & " S" stands for small intake (33.8). Engine Stamp # Port Valve K 22 B S K 22010 11 B S 3K# 24010 151 B S " 29 B S " 24010 218 B B " 24010 113 B B " 27 B S heres the code for spotting a bigport head (without taking off manifolds). It's all in the numbers cast inbetween the third and fourth sparkplug holes. The first line is the one to realy look at, more specificly, the last three numbers of the top line should be 010 if youre looking at a bigport. As for the smallports, none of them had 010. For example, the 3K twin carb bigport head, has the numbers: 24010 on the top line, then it has: 149 underneath that. I'm not sure what the first two numbers mean. Now armed with this information, you should be able to spot a bigport head just by reading the numbers on the side of the head. " measured again.. valve is closer to 36mm. so i guess it has the 35.9mm valves. Quote
Andy43 Posted November 15, 2010 Report Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) don't be tricked by the casting number. I have one bigport that says 24042 ????? and another that just says 13. At 30mm dia of inlet port sounds like a bigport. If it has a welsh plug at rear yep you have a bigport. I'll pull my data on valve sizes and update tomorrow. In a nut shell. If its got a rear welsh plug ,Its bigport. There are some variations in the combustion chamber, and some very low compression heads. If its lows flatish around the top its mid port. As I said photo of the combustion chamber, one from the top showing the valve springs or where they were. And for good measure one of the back of the head. There are many variations of k heads, I'm happy to stand corrected, I can only comment on what I have seen. Cheers Andy Edited November 15, 2010 by Andy43 Quote
crunk81us Posted November 15, 2010 Author Report Posted November 15, 2010 It hasn't got a welsh plug at the rear, so i guess it's not a big port. Photo's are a bit hard atm, my mate "borrowed" my camera :glare: I suppose it doesn't really matter if it's bigport or not, (would have been a nice score tho). I'll try and get my camera back to take some pics Quote
