86'AE71 Posted December 16, 2011 Report Posted December 16, 2011 Hi all, again.. just bought a AE71 wagon, diff is making a very loud winding noise at high ish speed, starts about 60, bloke i bought it off said you can adjust them, stripped it all down, and basicly the crown wheel is too far away from the pinion, so in effect the diff needs to be moved sideways, ive played with diffs before and used shims etc to cure this, so the gears match evenly, but I'm new to the toyotas...mine has 2 think spacers each side, my question is can you get shims for these? id say it needs to me moved about 2-3 mill one way, oh and the problem only occured because the chap who had it changed the prob and box to a AE86 one, he said there slightly different hence the adjustment needed? any help would be great! thanks all Quote
Evan G Posted December 17, 2011 Report Posted December 17, 2011 measure the shims you need and go down to a local diff/trans joint. they have millions in there! have you check the gear meshing with bearing blue? Quote
