altezzaclub Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 ..in theory I suppose yes, but not that I've heard of happening. Do the muffler and see if it changes anything. it started to overflow from the radiator eveywhere. Not good- ask your local garages if they can do a leakdown test, where they pressurise the cylinder via the spark plug hole and see if bubbles come out the radiator. If not, find out what tests they can do for leaking head gaskets. If you have a compressor at home you can probably organise it yourself. Seeing you have had overheating problems before with the water pump, it is likely that the head is now warped and letting compression into the water jackets. Quote
jara Posted December 21, 2011 Author Report Posted December 21, 2011 so i've started the car 3 times and let it idle without the rad' cap. the first two times i forgot to open the heater and i was getting bubbles. the third time i opened the heater and i got some bubbles but they stopped. i let it idle for about 15 minutes and there were no more bubbles and it didnt get hot. I'm hoping that this was just trapped air from when we completely drained and flushed the radiator. is this a possibility? although i need to put on a new thermostat gasket cause this one is leaking. altezzaclub Posted December 21, 2011 Report Posted December 21, 2011 That could be. So swap the gasket out and do the same thing when you start it up afterwards. Hopefully problem solved! Quote
jara Posted December 24, 2011 Author Report Posted December 24, 2011 well it hasnt gotten even close to hot since i got that air out. hopefully that's my cooling system sorted for a long time. theres a lot more i have to do to the little thing Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 24, 2011 Report Posted December 24, 2011 Excellent- and a good point for anyone else reading this thread who is working in the cooling system. Quote
jara Posted December 26, 2011 Author Report Posted December 26, 2011 god dammit, car ran nice and cool for a couple days then all of a sudden, hot again. Checked the radiator after it cooled down and sure enough all the cooling fluid is in the overflow bottle and my radiator is short again... I'm hoping it might be cause i've got a recovery system radiator cap without a recovery system set up, just the overflow. could this be it? I'm really hoping it's not the head gasket Quote
