wetweatherketo Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Alrighty so I recently rebuilt my 4k, it got bored out and also got a mild cam regrind. At the moment its just got the standard carby on it and I've got a weber (32/36 i think) sitting in the shed waiting to be put on, but I just wanted to get it all up and running after the rebuild than worry about the weber later on. So my car will start and I drive, and after about 5 minutes of driving when I go to accelerate in gears 3 and 4, at about 3000 revs and above the car starts to jump and stutter, and it is really bad up hills. So with this happening I haven't been going further than ten minutes away from home cause it is a pain in the ass to drive. I know that most likely my carby needs a proper tune for it to run smoothly, but also another problem is I can drive it for that 10 minutes stop the car and it will start again, drive it for another 5-10 minutes than stop it, than try and start it an hour or so later and she just won't start!! Will this be involved with the carby needing a tune??? My last question is I know I really need to get that weber on so where is a good place in Brisbane to fit and tune it??? Cheers lads. Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Will it idle when its runing badly?? Will it rev smoothly in neutral when its running badly? Sounds like its running out of fuel, not a tuning problem- jet blocked or fuel pump can't deliver enough, blocked fuel filter... Quote
wetweatherketo Posted January 9, 2012 Author Report Posted January 9, 2012 When I start it I have to keep reving it for about 3 or so minutes before it is warm enough to hold an idle on its own. Once warmed up it holds a fine idle. Also when reving in nuetral it sometimes is smooth, other times jumpy. I will look at the things you have listed. Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 Ah- what exhaust manifold?? Stock or extractors?? Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 9, 2012 Report Posted January 9, 2012 How is the thickness difference between the inlet & exhaust manifold?? If one is thicker it would be a source of air leaks, or if you have nuts that are bolted onto welds instead of flat surfaces. wetweatherketo Posted January 20, 2012 Author Report Posted January 20, 2012 They look the same thickness, so I'm not sure what is going on. I've got some money saved up now so I'm just going to take it to a place that specialises in Carby's so they can rebuild my carby if need be and sort it all out. Thanks heaps for the help :) Quote
