There is two bolts holding the alternator onto the engine.

The bottom long bolt will act as the pivot for the top bolt, which is connected to a rack.

Loosen the bottom bolt only slightly, then the top bolt, and push the alternator away from the block. Retighten the top bolt, and then bottom one.

Mind you don't over tension the belts, as its not good for them.

You'll most likely need some help with this process

yip, there should be a slotted bracket with a bolt though it on to the alternator, just loosen it off and move the alternator to tighten the belt.

you might find you have to loose the bottom alternator bolt as well, which is under the alternator and really hard to see.

if you run it too tight, you'll shag your water-pump and/or alternator bearings ... usually water-pump first.

I have found a large screw driver shoved down between the alternator and the block (used as a lever) most effecacious for holding the desired belt tension whilst tightening the top alternator bolt. It's easier to pull on the end of a long screwdriver than the alternator itself - just make sure you don't pull too hard and overtighten it.

well went to tighten belt today and then had a look and decided it was screwed, then remembered i had a new one in the boot so i wacked it on!

all is good now no more squeal from it sliping, that bottom bolt is a bitch and was never done up tight!

was going to remove the bash plate from under the engine to get to the bottom but the bolt heads were round so had to do it from top!
