Maztrix Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Hi, i have a completely stock KE20 and am looking at changing the diff ratios and putting a 5 speed gearbox in. At the moment the car is revving its guts out doing 100kms and i want to do some long distance driving in it and travel in 100km zones every day. What would be the best diff to put in and what car will i find it in? What car can i find a 5 speed gearbox in that will bolt straight into my car? Thank you Daniel Quote
irokin Posted July 9, 2006 Report Posted July 9, 2006 A 5 speed gearbox will give you over drive with a ratio of 0.865. I did a 5 speed conversion in my KE20 (Here) way back when. I like the KE70 box length, even though you have to cut a bit of tunnel away to fit the shifter in. The shifter position is just right (for me anyway). I think the KE55 boxes are slightly shorter, but by how much I don't know. The gearbox conversion should make highway driving a little more bearable. I would try and avoid going for a lower ratio diff because the 3K doesnt have the torque to cope with it. Do the gearbox first, then see how you go. Maztrix Posted July 10, 2006 Author Report Posted July 10, 2006 Thanks irokin Will i have to change the tail shaft aswell? And what is a KE70 Gearbox worth? Cheers Daniel Quote
irokin Posted July 10, 2006 Report Posted July 10, 2006 Standard KE20 tailshaft fits fine. Its possibly a bit short/long but I never experienced any problems. I payed $150 for a rebuilt one a few weeks back. Around $100 is the usual going price. Quote
