Mate, I reckon a stock diff may last if you don't shock load it too much like side stepping the clutch or flat changes etc you Should be able to drive it hard, some people on here have managed to make the ke diffs survive behind ca's and such, so 4age's 100 odd kw should be ok . Maybe. if you do go the effort of a swap go beefy so you don't do it twice. Cheers.
  4. hey nisrola, before I start grinding n cutting, did you have any trouble removing the hilux leaf mounts. They look filled with weld where as the rolla mounts look easy to remove with a little cut here n there.? Difficult to align the rolla mounts perfectly on the Lux diff? Measure, measure and measure again I suppose. Did you use the brake lines from the rolla diff, as its looking like they pretty much fit straight on the lux diff. Cheers.
  5. Yea true, diff will live behind ca18 and 5 speed so should be robust enough I hope. At the moment is 5k so the 4 speed is the fuse. The orininal 4 speed has outlasted a few diffs and taken a beating so can't be too weak(in k motor perspective )
  6. great so RN 40 I was thinkin RN 41 . So the centre I want is rn40 LSD, or lock my centre 4.8 should be good for hard launches no snaps yea? Also what other model tailshaft yolks are the same eg corona hiace etc from same era or only hilux specific? cheers.
  7. I have this chunky hilux- diff that measures 1420 face to face, is 10 bolt, has 59h stamped on the housing and also is very phat. After measuring I think it should fit my ke30 uncut with the right wheels no dramas. Any ideas what year model Its from? ...yea I know Google is my friend bla bla...etc. Sorry.
  8. Cheers mate I'll try this thinning method as i followed the 3m instructions and it did seem a little thick. When thinning like this, did you get much Orange peel?
  9. ok well I think it maybe the clear coat causing the problem. I experimented on an old panel to get the gun adjustments right. Tricky business that. It doesn't mention anything about hardener on the can, but I'm sure its just the clear coat that's soft. I put alot of coats of clear on (6) with a 5minute flash time between coats. The clear was laying nicely wasn't dry. gonna try mixing a small amount of clear with the base colour next time, might set harder and still give a nice gloss. The gloss with 6 clears is crazy even before cut & polish.
  10. Anyone with experience using acrylics, what's the good n bad brands. I've had a test panel sitting for close on a month in hi temp dry conditions, and it doesn't seem to be hardening right. now I know acrylics aren't as tough as 2pak but I don't expect to be able to leave a fingernail impression with a soft prod. The panel feels hard and running your hand over its def dry ok, just a bit soft. the brand is 3m premium acrylic laquer, and all prep was done correctly. I've seen a job done with septone acrylic, and it was much tougher. Can't see the point In spending weeks sanding straightening and filling and then laying a crap brand down. Any pointers/advice?
  11. Got not much done. Got some filler on the back, no rust there just needed a thin layer to even up the surface. Pulled fuel filler out and found a mess....not sure how to approach this, maybe cut this section out and replace with the one from ke35 coupe I got for donor bits. Small rust holes around hinge area front passenger door..just ground the rust away Applied some converter inside and filled with steel reinforced filler, which is a bitch to work with but sets much stronger and doesn't crack. Windscreen glue sucks balls, its like that slimy nostril nugget you just can't flick of ya finger...all you can do is roll it round. Tried thinners which made hell mess and got no luck , wax and grease remover and a small scraper is the go. Also put some new points and plugs in old mate 5k, and she fired up easy as, not bad for first start in 5 years I reckon, sounds good with extractors too, no smoking. Scored this 35 coupe for parts , 3k and also runs smooth would you believe. These k motors are hard. Got overrated dash no cracks and CRX seats. Wheels....got some originals, some cheviots, and some carolla 2 15s, not sure which ones to go for. I'm thinking I might piss around with the 5k for a bit ,since its Regod with this motor, so might have the local exhaust shop wip up a j pipe manifold and try a t25 till she pops. Anyway enough dribble (sorry got bored)
  12. just read your entire build thread. Love it mate top job. Nice colour too, I reckon red looks the goods especially with a set of deep dish chromies. You gonna put some boost up it? Boosted ke rollas are Insane. did you get much Orange peel with your paint? What size compressor you use? Cheers, sprattz.

  14. Front quarter done. 6 coats top coat 6 coats clear. Gotta know when to stop when painting, its easy to be too fussy and end up soon the same panel over an over. This is my first attempt at doing a nice paint job, so this first panel I have experimented a bit trying to work out correct spray pattern, speed etc. Frustrating at first but after some stuffing around I've sorta got it workin ok. Any advice with acrylic is good.
  15. Thought id put my project rolla up. 75 2 Door sedan ke30. Scored cheap rescued from a back yard. Has 5k extractors. I have a ca18det engine complete with loom etc from Adelaide jap, which seems to be taking forever to get to me, currently in quarantine . Plans are Monza red paint fresh suspension, stumpy 5 speed. Also I have a very early hilux diff. Well I have stripped the car out and started with painting one panel at a time. First time painting. This project has swallowed some coin already if I count cost of compressor, hvlp guns paint clear hoses etc plus 1600 for the donk.
