  1. x24298534958 for Altezza being a top bloke. You said its an auto so just check the transmission fluid a mates auto kept stalling because it had none, though it was rough changing gears too.
  2. I did mock up a shroud that I stuck on with areldite hoping it would last a little longer then 500 meters, it seemed like the best long term solution. Wasn't running on the belt or anything though? Maybe I should look into getting one welded on properly.
  3. G'day again, Just a quicky about alternators, other than the internal to external regulators and that what is the physical difference (size, position) of the alternators? Right now in the zook the denso alternator fan likes mincing radiator hoses (using the van style hose but its still in the way). I've tried making different style brackets but there isn't really much room to move, tried running the smallest belt possible and it's only just of the radiator hose when turned off. Cheers Jackson
  4. :blinks: I can not seem to remember seeing one or replacing it when I rebuilt the carb
  5. Sorry should have said it has an electronic distributor. Will try spraying some carby cleaner in the over flows. Had a look at the plugs they show it might be a little lean probably has a bees dong stuck in the jet :glare: Will also run a spanner over the manifold bolts, I have found a loose one there before. Cheers guys
  6. Hey guys, Need some help with where to look. Yesterday I was cruising along in my 4k'd sierra like I usually do  all of a sudden it would hardly do 70 running rough and missing alot was on my way home so wasn't so bad. Managed to get home, I hadn't heard any noises but I give it compression test, all good, and vacumn test, all good. Had a bit of a peek in the fuel filter, full of crud :bash: , put a new filter on today and it seems to have gotten worse. Can't even do 50 and can hardly take off :bash: :bash: :bash: It idles well, no ominous noises. I haven't sprayed any cleaner in the carb yet but I only just rebuilt it. A mate suggested the fuel pump but I didn't think it would take much fuel to keep that little bowl full and when I took the top off this afternoon the bowl was full. Anything else I could try? :blinks: Cheers, Jackson
  7. G'day fellas Ok I have a 4k in my Suzuki Sierra and now that it is going regularly I have started looking at doing odd jobs. So anyway the air intake at the moment is a custom job using the lite ace van carb hat and runs over to the sierra air filter but it definitely isn't air tight and it has a few sharp turns and that. I got my hands on a 3k airbox but it is to tall (fouls on the bonnet) the stud isn't long enough either. So anyway is the 4k airbox different? Or what other air filters have people put on the stock carb? Thanks Jackson
  8. I'm a member of Auszookers and some of them use the 4k carby's on their Sierra motors because they reckon they are better on angles :blinks: I must have really buggered up the float level...
  9. G'day fellas, hows it going? Here is my dilemma for this week. I have a 4k motor in my Sierra and going up hills (more like steps, quarry walls, etc) I'm finding that my car is flooding, fuel is coming through the overflows and I have to hold it flat just to stop it from stalling. So far I am thinking I may have set the float tangs wrong when I rebuilt the carb, though I did it to the specifications on the instructions. Otherwise I have read recommendations of using a low pressure electric pump instead of the mechanical one, not sure if this will solve the problem. Or I have been wondering the effects of just blocking the overflows? Would appreciate anyone's input on this. Thanks
  10. G'day. Got a couple of questions tonight. First off the bat I've vacumn tested my 4k before and it has been normal but some funny shit has been happening lately so today when I tested it I got about 24mmHg at idle which is above normal had a look on the net but I can not find what would cause that. I tried slowing the idle down and that moved it down to 22 but the motor is about to die. Any ideas? Secondly my motor is a bit of a mystery motor (been through two engine conversions) so far I have been through the radiator I got with it and a brand spanker. I don't know where it is coming from but I am getting little stones :blinks: blocking the tubes is this just shit off the block? Thanks for any help. Jackson
  11. Yo Altezza, do you know what the power valve is all about? Having a look it is just like another jet that opens up with vacumn, it looks like it might come out the primary barrel in the same but the primary jet feeds. But in the diagrams it looks like it is linked up to the idle bit (it comes out of that port on the bottom edge in the pics). Is it called a power valve cause it allows more fuel when you plant it? Isn't that what the secondary is for? Or is it something to do with when she is idling? Cheers.
  12. So I have rebuilt the carb but stumbled across something interesting. I left the secondary vacuum diaphram sitting upside down on the bench. The next morning it was sitting in a nice little puddle of black sludge. :bash: I want to try get it all out before I put it back on, as it might be a reason the secondarys stop opening. Anyone got an idea of how to get it out? Also the bits in those diagrams that says "jets" are they little plastic cylinder things in the vac lines?
  13. Alloy heads don't usually crack they usually warp. My excel blew a head gasket. It could turn new into a caramel milkshake in 20k's (brought all the boys to the yard). It could have been some moisture in the engine but that is usually a small amount of milky oil. If the whole lot is milky I'd say you done a head gasket. Did it overheat recently? Loose all the water?
