  1. seems my problem was a little more serious than I thought haha there's only shredded bits of perished rubber left where a timing belt once sat anyone know if the 4A-C is an interferance motor or not?? just so I know whether to go buy a new timing belt or start shopping for a new motor Dave
  2. my auto electric skills are more than just a little bit rusty having a problem with the AE71, the coil isn't producing any spark trying replacing it with the same problem so I'm assuming it's in the wiring pre coil rather than stuffing around pulling the loom apart and trying to find the fault I'd like to just re-wire up the new coil independant of the original loom can anyone tell me everything that needs to be wired up to the coil and which terminal it should come from (+) or (-) thanks in advance Dave
  3. can anyone tell me the stock compression ratio for a 4A-C motor in the AE71 corolla ?
  4. you can't use it it doesn't fit in the T50 bellhousing
  5. "For those of you who don't know, the standard pistons from both the early AFM-type and the late MAP-type GZE's are forged steel. The later pistons also come with a ceramic coated crown" taken from www.turbocorolla.com
  6. what kind of $$$ would we be talking?
  7. hehe I do realise that a FWD clutch can't be used I was refering to the flywheel being an inch or so to tall to fit into the T50 bellhousing
  8. do you know if there is any physical external difference between the AE92 and AE101 motors? I'm told the one he has is an AE101 but he didn't seem to have any real idea what he was talking about. Also, is it true that 4AGZE's all have forged pistons from the factory? I've heard that a few times from a few different people Dave
  9. why will I have trouble with a mod plate? You only need to upgrade brakes on cars before 1971 when doing an engine conversion. And even then there has to be a certain amount of increase in the engine displacement before an upgraded is needed. As for the clutch concern....what car should I ask for a clutch for? A 4AGZE clutch flywheel apparently won't fit into the T50 bellhousing I was told A flywheel from a 4AGE is slightly smaller isn't it? were there any aus delivered cars with a RWD 4AGE so I can just go buy a clutch/flywheel for that? Dave
  10. the car only has to run for a day :blinks: dump the motor in with bare basics to drive and get mod plate then come back out again straight away and start on mods :jason:
  11. I've heard there is 3 or 4 different 4AGZE motors what's the difference between each? and which is the pick of the bunch with an eye for future mods? I've heard the AE101 version was the most powerfull, and I know I can get my hands on one easily enough...but what makes it more powerfull? Don't want to get it then find out it's more powerfull because of something that I'm going to have to remove anyways due to the RWD installation (ie. inlet manifold) Dave
  12. thanks buddy had already taken into consideration the manifolds, so it looks like I didn't overlook anything I can use the clutch/flywheel from my AE71 right?
  13. what else apart from motor and computer are needed to do the conversion? I assume they would have a mechanical fuel pump on the side of the motor? can I just run an external pump in it's place or will I need to also fit a pick up pump in the tank? Is the fuel line thick enough? Or will I need to change it Those of you that have done the conversion before, what did you use as a fuel return line from the fuel rail to the tank? steel tubing? or just a length of rubber hose? Any thing else I need?
  14. also you hear a lot of different stories about whether or not VL turbo and non turbo pumps flow the same. the part numbers from bosch for both the turbo and non turbo vl fuel pumps are the same, but these are part numbers for replacement pumps. The part numbers on the original factory pumps are different. So yes a brand new VL non turbo pump will flow just as much as a brand new turbo one (some places even charge more if you ask for a turbo one even though it's exactly the same part) but if you get the part second hand from a wreckers the turbo and non turbo pumps are different
  15. heya guys, new to the site and to playing with corolla's are there any easy options for a brake upgrade for an AE71?? I'm thinking of fitting a 4AGZE and the current brakes aren't even really up to spirited driving with standard power Dave
  16. VL's have both a low volume internal pump and a high pressure external pump
