  1. Sorry I don't quite understand the part about the vacuum chamber? And what were the lines replaced with? Mines not a tight fit at all, I have just finished sealing the vacuum line (including inlet side) with aircraft grade sealant (goop), which should sort it out if its leaking past. The chamber being the modulator? I am slightly concerned that oil has leaked into this modulator, there was a fair bit of fresh oil leaking all over the gearbox, and down the vacuum line onto this modulator. Cheers!
  2. Car is going fairly well, have one small issue though. The trimatic isn't shifting properly. It's got fresh oil at the right level and new filter. However the vacuum line that attaches to the modulator is leaking air I think. Is it meant to be clamped on or something? At the moment it just slides in and out loose, which I am assuming is allowing air to escape? It shifts ok to second sometimes (other times it revs out in first and haven't managed third yet (tried twice). If someone more familiar with these gearboxes than me could shed some light or even a photo on what the connect should look like? I was t-boned on Sunday night and my daily is now written off so I would really like to get this thing sorted so I can get to work. note: the manifold side is tight with no leaks Thanks again!
  3. Rebuilt carby again, this time made sure everything was working perfectly, got a bit of crap out of it. Drained fuel tank and flushed it. Put a tank of fresh 95 caltex in it .Turned car over untill i got a few litres out of the line just before carby (so flushed fuel lines). Conmected it all up again and set timing to 8 deg. Ran like a champ after this. Will take it for a few drives then some up the hwy. Hopefully thats the last if the issues. Thanks to everyone for their help, I suspect it was the carby this time.
  4. Thanks mate, this is the info I was after, am going to wait till a mate is free and rebuild the carby again with him. Hes got more experience than me. Will report back. Thanks
  5. Ok so this is getting silly. Could I please get some quick info on: A) what should timing be at idle (currently 0 deg and advances normally) B) how to set the different mixtures screws if they are way out. eg how to set them close enough to get the car started and go from there. Thanks guys....its doing my head in. note. I am pretty sure its a carby or some vacuum issue now
  6. I bought a aftermarket ebay one for my ke55. The horn contact was too long and bent the brass ring on the back of my steering wheel and snapped the plastic on the combo switch. Don't recommend the ebay ones
  7. The Split washers are called spring washers and they provde a secondary locking function to the torque (stop the bolts coming loose). You can use them but i would use a washer between the spring washer and the casing to stop it cutting into it. But instead of a spring washer I personally would just use loctite thread locker on the threads and torque them up. You should use thread locker on any bolt that has a chance of vibrating loose.
  8. So some of the valves are about .1 mm out and no valve springs are broken, will adjust when i have some more time. Somehow i don't think this is my issue...perhaps breaking the carby down again and cleaning it? What did u guys use to clean urs out?
  9. Sorry what I meant to say was forget the dizzy side of things, its def working as advertised. My thoughts are now at the head, something with clearances and valves, will further investigate this on the weekend. I don't think its a timing issue at this stage.
  10. Nevermind about the timing, fixed it up and changing fuel pumps to a better one i had lying around. Ran brilliantly for 5 minutes then started pinging again. Wispy smoke comes out of the oil cap, carby and down near the exhaust somewhere. Any ideas now? Changed oil and filter after it was warm too, no change. Fuel seems to be squirting into the bowl fantastically
  11. So just tried both, with what little light I had left. pumped the accelerator arm on the carby which squirted fuel into the bowl, started fine and idled for a bit then died. So that means I need to get me a fuel pump! Rotating the dizzy did not much at all Corollanut. I could hear the rpm and smoothness change, so I quickly got it to where it sounded best and tightened it up. Should be ok there for when I get a pump and do timing. Just a thought, how do you regulate the advance on the ke55 bosch dizzy's if there is no adjustment for it? I know its vacuum operated, but if the manual says its needs to be 'x' at 3000rpm or whatever (after I have set idle timing correctly of course) and the advancement is out, does this mean new carby? or at least new diaphragm? Cheers!
  12. Awesome, thanks guys, now I have some stuff to try out. I will get back to you with the result. How I temporary set it was points opening at TDC, I thought that would at least get me in the ball park, but nothing changed. Fuel pump sounds like it might be a go, will try both suggestions!
  13. But the stale fuel is now gone and replaced with fresh fuel. Are you saying that it may have damaged something along the line?
  14. The frustration of this has kept me from it for some time, and lack of time/money. So, The carby is rebuilt, new fuel filter placed in stock position to protect the carby. New spark plugs Rotor cap Rotor I ran out of fuel, while changing the coolant (which was where i left it for some time), I put some more 95 in and now it wont start. It does turn over, and it jumps all over the ʞ©$ɟing place, like timing is wayyyy out (hence the rotor cap, spark plugs, rotor). I reset the dizzy to where i thought it should be and its no better, I can't get it to hold rpm long enough to get a light on it. But, what the hell? how can it go from running 80% well and final touches to running out of fuel and now not running. I thought possibly the carby or fuel filter was clogged from sucking the dregs out of the tank, but they are both perfect (replaced filter anyway). Any ideas? cos I am lost, is it possible something is stuck in the fuel pickup, or in the line?? Becuase I have not changed a thing from when it ran fine last time (except running out of fuel) It might be worth nothing that the fuel it was using had been sitting for probably 6months-1year Thanks heaps guys
