  1. Cool, thanks guys. Presumably not a GZE as my pistons look like the first image. I won't go strapping a turbo to the side just yet then;)
  2. It has no supercharger or anything, just looks like a regular 4age in any AE82. I'm wondering why someone has put in the big gearbox thats all. I have had the head off, but did not suspect anything at that point so didn't worry too much. Do the GZEs have low comp pistons or do they look the same?
  3. Well, I think I have it sorted with a single 25mm spacer at the rear of the crossmember, and I've reverted to an AE82 top gearbox mount which just required a plate to pick up the other gearbox mounting hole. Will remake the spacer out of solid alloy (its wood at the moment) and hopefully my mechanic will pass it. If not I might shop around for a RWC. Does anyone know if there is any way to tell a 4AGE from a 4AGZE from the outside?
  4. Thanks, Hmm, well is seems to be far from stock stuff here. It has an LSD which is nice, but for a daily I might be better off to swap it back to standard then. At least my mechanic will pass it then. Looks like a fun weekend ahead for me... Madmorrie
  5. Hi All, I have an AE82 twinkly that someone has put an e58 gearbox in. My mechanics won't pass it for a roadworthy cause he thinks the mounts look wrong. Has anyone managed to do this swap without backyard hacking? I don't want to have to get an engineers cert.
  6. Hey Guys, have been on this site for ages but lost my old login. Anyway, thought I'd might as well contribute and post up something about my Rollas. I had an AE82 twinky hatch for about 5 years as a daily. Loved it, but it was pretty rough. Look good from afar, but was far from good. Anyway, time came that I needed a new daily driver, and for cheap. I had intended on dragging the old twinky from mum and dads backyard. I figured that it would at least need 4 new tyres and 4 shocks. So I was up for at least a grand to get it back on the road. But then, searching gumtree I found another. Exactly the same model, but about 100,000 ks younger. Plus it had power-steering. Anyway, bought it on site, regardless of it's tendancy to make caramel milkshakes in it radiator, cause it looked ace. One headgasket later and I think we've sorted that little problem. Head was clean as inside so i think someone has done it recently but incorrectly tightened it. We'll see how it goes. Had it booked in for a rwc the week before christmas, but it snapped a cam belt the night before!! So I have now pinched bits off the old one to replace the busted bits, like the lower cam cover, and got a new belt on there and its running again. Had the rwc check done today and it needs 1 new rack boot, and 2 new brake hoses. Thats it! Car is bloody overrated!! Anyway, it does still have some weird issues, one of which is the engine mounts are binding and vibrating like hell. Which didn't make sense to me, so comparing it to the other one I had, I was able to determine that this new one has an e58 gearbox in it. And it has the equal length driveshafts too. Possibly LSD? Did a little skid on gravel and got two marks so presumably. Will hopefully get it regoed very soon. Cheers Madmorrie
