  1. My first car was a pintara trx with a KA24E and my second car was a 180SX with an SR20DET. I've also driven a friends SR20DE pulsar and personally I'd go that option over the KA if you want non turbo. The KA isn't terrible, or maybe it is and i was just impressionable. Either way $1100 for the single cam version is a little rich.

  2. In my opinion $4,500 for panel and paint is cheap. I've been quoted 8K+ just for panel work on a KE10 which I had stripped myself and most spray shops want anything from 5K to 10K for a full respray.

If you want full panel and paint hunt around for a one man type shop. They're usually more willing to take on full restoration jobs and not charge like a wounded bull.

  3. He did pretty well I think, a bit of paint goes a long way.

I think it is about right. Personally I wouldn't pay that much but I like a bargain.

Having said that if its as good in the flesh as it is in the pictures and you're really keen on one I think it's a fair price or close enough to.

  4. I've noticed that Celica before and scoffed at the price. In my opinion they are by far the ugliest of that Celica era and I'll never understand how they fetch/command decent money.

I spotted the Corona recently as well. It looks decent in the pictures and being that they are rare I think its worth $6500 all day. I've seen a couple in the last 12 months that were "barn finds" or decent survivors but nothing special and they were advertised at over $7000.

  5. Yawn indeed. I haven't watched in quite some time but it has been dead for years.

It used to be about the cars. Now its about a stupid race between a train, a car and a cyclist. Miraculously they all turn up at the same spot within seconds of each other. It really makes for great television when that happens.

  6. I don't see it as a phallus measuring contest at all. You like what you like and others like what they like. People getting upset about who is right may need to have a look at themselves.

I don't really see how drifting is a sport. Sure they're talented but who wins seems to be a matter of opinion unless its really clear cut.

For a circuit car its mostly about making it handle and power is somewhat of an after thought. On the street, to me, that all goes out the window.

  7. I've never understood why people hate "lag" so much. I've had a car with a well matched turbo and a lag monster. I'll take that lag monster any day. Sure it's difficult to hit an apex and hit boost at the same time but I guess it depends on what you want to do with your vehicle.

ATOYOTA, I took just as much offence of you bagging laggy setups as I took from Oh what a nissan feeling saying get out more, which was none. Seems the pot is calling the kettle a hypocrite.

  8. I would rather keep the naming and shaming to myself for the moment but from a PM received it's not the first time he has had less than favourable dealings.

It was cheap enough. Like I've said it's not about the money, it's not even the fact that he either lied or made a mistake in the ad. It's that he won't admit his fault.

  9. Upon initial contact with the seller after realising the problem, I was after a refund. The seller told me if I didn't like it to send it back but that it was a genuine SL. After some toing and froing he got defensive and irate. He even issued me with what I assume was a semi threat. So in the face of more conflict I'll just keep it and cut my losses.

Whenever I get my act together and finish my car I will need a gear knob and this one will do the job so I'm happy to keep it, just extremely disappointed and dumbfounded that the seller won't admit his fault. He seems to sell a lot of KE1X stuff so he should know what he is talking about and told me "Ive only sold stuff to toyota museam(sic) and worldwide for 13yrs".

For the record this item was bought through gumtree.

  10. I suspected as much, I just wanted some confirmation. I was hoping you'd stop by for a comment Parrot.

The seller got quite defensive when questioned (not accused) of selling me an item not as advertised. I am partially to blame as I didn't consult my brochure and comparing before committing to buy.

Altezzaclub, I should add that this item is brand new with a part number sticker still attached so it has never been fitted to a car. Therefore I guess it can't be confused as an original fitment.

  11. I recently purchase what was advertised as a KE10 SL gear knob from a member of this forum. I received the item and after a day or two I decided to compare it with the brochure I have showing the optional SL interior package (gear knob, steering wheel and dash).

Quite clearly the item on the left is different to the brochure. I told the seller I felt the item was not what he advertised it as. He swears black and blue that the item is indeed a genuine from Toyota SL knob.

Then while doing some googling i found the following...

Now I'm no expert on the subject but it looks as though I've been sold an AMCO item.

So I throw this out to anyone with more knowledge on the subject than myself. Were these ever fitted to Corollas as an SL option?

  12. I bought a set some years ago, minus the filter housing. I think they cost me about $150.

As others people have said about ebay. Pick what you want to pay and enter that at the last possible moment. That way you aren't annoyed you lost a $300 item at $60 because you were tying to snag it cheap.
