Hot damn! Will post the minute I get back from work. Damn 0830 meetings...

no male spectators
haha :D
Does that extend to photographers? <semi-serious />
Dammit, so many events to shoot coming up, and only one me.
*edit* Shit, I just saw my avatar after submitting that.... if I wasn't at work, I'd be rofl.

Nope. Don't use digital zoom at all. I can honestly say that it is nothing more than a marketing gimmick, and should be turned off at all times. Personally, if I don't have the reach I need, I just crop it and call it a day. I'd prefer a small, high quality image to a big, soft and grainy one. Mind you, though, you're talking to someonw with a 6MP camera (~ 3000x2000 output), so my idea os 'small' may be different to yours :D
If you really want to upsize your image, interpolatethis.com (I think) has reviews of software which can do a better job of it than your camera can.
ND = Neutral density filter. It basically cuts down the amount of light, without affecting the colour of the light that enters the camera. Used when you want to cut down the light going in, so that that you can use a longer shutter speed. They come in various strengths, from 2x to 1000x (!). For example of fun you can have, see http://www.adorama.com/BW52ND1.html
I buy from centre.net.au, quick to ship (overnight) if stuff is in stock, takes bpay, and is cheap. They have a variety of stuff, from lenses to memory to filters to tripods and a whole myriad of non-photographic stuff.

Tom, feed those digital zoomed files thru neatimage (neatimage.com). That'll help with the noise, but you'll still be lacking in detail. But, like Fook said, you're probably going to get better results just cropping and using the unsharp mask in PS.
I've got a 2x ND Filter and a remote release on order... should be able to get some really long exposures with those.

pro_ke: Haha, yes I know of that site, and also http://www.houmam.com/gallery/, and also many others! Yay, now I not only have pictures and audio, I also have VIDEO!!!
WOO HOO!
heheheheheheheheheheeee...
Hey, that's Dave Said's website, the fanboy! Of all the people in the world...

If you must know, it's a pre-emptive birthday bbq. My birthdays, on the 28th, but that's the same day as riverfire, so it's going to be a logistical nightmare organising any kind of gathering that saturday arvo. Besides, I want to get a good spot by the river. Unless, that is, someone with a balcony offers me a spot.
Anyway, yeah, it's just a small gathering of people to have a bbq, have a chat, throw things around, that kinda stuff.

For those of you who came in late, the photos are at http://haikal.freeshell.org/photos/2004/Motorkhana4 . There's also /Motorkhana, /Motorkhana1, /Motorkhana2 and /Motorkhana3. If there are any that you like there, I'd suggest you save them to your harddrives, because I rotate albums as I run out of webspace.
Skidman: Yes, funny, isn't it, given that I can't even drive (yet... Fook's been giving me some lessons).

Potluck BBQ at Roma St. Parklands, from around 3 if you guys want to come. It's a saturday.
-
You can place an order now, actually, if you want. I can get them printed and shipped to you whenever. Just do a direct debit to my account (email for details) and it's all good.

Geez Haky (can I call you Haky??), those photos sure are great!! My personal favourites are the Ken Graham one where he is leaning out of the window, the kid in the helmet on the seat, Bazza concentrating so hard on learning the motorkhana test.
You have an amazing ability to capture the moment with such clarity!! While I love the car shots, it's the ones with people in them I love the most. Thanks for taking photos, we really appreciate it since we don't have the time (or the ability or the equipment etc) to do so on the day...
What am I, now some kinda fish?
Yeah, car shots only have so much appeal. And after a while they all start to look the same. At the end of the day, it is the human element that makes it all interesting.
Seriously, though, I'm glad you guys like my work, that's what keeps me coming back, the fact that you guys appreciate what I do.
So let it be known, and order some prints! They make for great memories, and gifts. After all, you never know when your precious might have a high speed encounter with a another solid, unyielding object :S And like Fook said, a better equipped Haikal makes for a happier Haikal. Oh, and the pictures come out heaps better, too.

Redbone sounds cooler. Besides, if your interior has some red, justification enough for me. Besides, whitebone's a bit redundant, if you ask me.
Or, how about "Redboone" for a variation?
-
Photos should be up and ready by the time you read this, just one more folder to go:

Thank you and good night.

"Redbone"?

Pics processed, just need to be plassified, web album'ed and uploaded. Should be up by late tonight, depending on network traffic.

We can probably request services of Haikal for the shoot, he has gear, he has talent.
Nuff said.
Just started to read this thread, yes, I'd be glad to do this. I would expect to be able to dictate, say at least the time of day the shoot would be (not two hours either side of midday, late afternoon or early morning-ish would be best).
I have some leave time racked up, so wouldn't mind using it.
If I could have an idea about the location, that would also be grouse. A variety of settings would be good. Dwarf would probably look most at home somewhere vegetative (and I don't mean our living room ). Fook's car I can imagine it somewhere industrial. Can we come up with 12 different locations for 12 different cars?
If anyone can convince wenches to partake in this endeavour, that would be great also. We could do wenched and wenchless version. Who knows wenches who are willing (and maybe wet (What is this? Fast Fours or something?? I get distracted...anyway))
Ooh, and don't expect to get all the cars done in the same day either, depending on light/ locations.
We should start thinking about this early if we want to get one ready for 2k5. (Maybe mods could fork this into a new thread?)

Ok Peoples - time for an update.
I know a really good place to go.
Every one know Mt Glorious? Well, if we head up to the top, then make our way down the other side, there are some really nice spots along the way... could even turn into the next bbq cruze? - What ever the case its a good drive :S - yes / no ?
Is the BBQ only going to be before or after the ride? The way Fook drove up and down Mt. Neebo, anything I ingest will have a hard time staying in.

I look soo.... round!
I do have a few of people smoking tyres, but I wasnt' able to get in a good position to shoot any three-wheeling.

And my last one for the evening, a boat laden with resort workers returning home for the day. Somewhere near Male', Maldives.
