  1. hello all..i am looking at doing the 20v conversion in my ae82 twincam..i can do all the mechanical side of things myself but what i don't understand is the wiring..i have heard that you just splice the 20v loom into the 16v fuse box in the engine bay.if someone could shed a bit more info thatd be really good.

    cheers damo.

its not quite as easy as that.........suggest you call me

  2. i might take up your offer some time soon old corolla bloke as the engine didnt go through as i started my apprentaship much sooner then was planed so now the only time i can have the car off the road is on weekends and thats to tight for workshops to do  ..

Around how long can this conversion take just so it running and driveable?

    bring on the 20v :)

  3. so all those corollas out there.... thousands driving around and about 20 responded to the roll call

is there any suggestions on how to make this site a little better known!

Ive got one..........why stop at STICKERS. those people that make stickers usually also make business cards

    500 cards cost bugger all.

hows this.......but a sticker and get 20 cards with it......then a good member would not throw those cards away but would give them to other corolla onwers they meet or see at shopping centre car park or bloody where ever.

time to think about how all you WA guys could get enough cars together to have a CRUISE and be noticed as a CAR ENTHUISIASTS.......BUT FOR COROLLAS.

so respond with ideas that could boost members.....and rememeber I'm old not ancient but still like a good corolla

  4. so what carby in on it??

i'd like to do some simple cheap CHEAP mods on mine just for a little bit more kick but yeah...

    thanks

I know it was a down draft weber......which one I had on the shelf and MADE it fit with an adaptor I can't remember

get a second std hand manifold cut flange off weld new on hey presto weber fit, and now play with cable easy

  5. Wade finally emailed me back today after i emailed them 1 week ago. Even then they asked me to be more specific on what grind i wanted. Unfortunately they don't list their grinds on their website and they have 'too many' grinds to list them all. So i have requested that they fax me the complete list.

Guess i will get a fax in a week or two if i am lucky. :kiwi:

over many years I used a variety of different cams.......mostly sourced in australia

doing this in the belief we aussies ARE a capable lot. well in the main we are BUT!!!

the cams which performed with the best driveabilty were all made and ground overseas

the trd were good but not great as they tended to be top end and when cam timing was advanced to bring them down out of the cloud revs wise. other problems occured

the best and last k series cam I ever bought was a 1yy grind from toyota sport great britain......now gone bust.....but the cam was made by PIPER from thier magnum range and was a 40/76. just a great all rounder strong mid range and big nuts at the top.

you don't know me and ive since sold the cam so you can't compare however I assure you you would not be disappointed

  6. Junior Speedway car. As I'm a total newbie to these cars I'll ask the dumb ? Cars fueling up at idle. Choofing black smoke out the exhaust. Also it's fueling up at when she's cornering (foot off) . Where do I start? Std carby type is all we're allowed to run. Jetting is free. Don't have time for a dyno run this week so I need to sort this before the weekend as she's (13 y/o) is racing again (keen).trikes

with out seeing the car running its a bit hard to guess what it wrong BUT here is a stab

i think your float level is a bit high

or if you have an electric pump the fuel pressure from the pump is excessive try a regulator between the pump and the carby holley do a good, cheap simple one

    i hope this helps

  7. Yet I think I remember maybe Nick or someone converting an AE71 back to a 4K cos the 4K was more reliable.

If you work a 4K or even a 5K, its gonna piss all over a 4A-C.

nuh its not going to piss on it......the 4ac can be made to go hard.very hard!! and with only minimal work.

my wifes ae71 of some years ago was a rocket that always wanted to rev. the biggest inhibiting factor is the carby.

get a bigger one and there is a good difference

    later electronic ignition better coil

pay particular attention to the area of the manifold immediatly below the carby. actually adding devcon to better radius the bend will increase the flow

standard exhaust manifold is crap a costly effort at custom making did wonders BUT oh the pain...must be a cheap way some where

a small cam if you want....very mild was mine

no internal mods a slight lump in the idle, standard airbox....cops thought it was an out of tune standard car

it would be a dam good 3k or 4k with twins that would beat it

there is another alternative......bit of work though.....get a bunkyT18 and swap everything. very torquey with head shave, extractors 2.25 exhaust and weber

  8. ... wow

You guys are way too good for me!!

Don't rush? I don't really want to rush, I did use the wrong tome there. The idea is that I don't want to have the car off the road for months while it's a work in progress.

I am planning on using 4-1 extractors on the 2T ... I think that's a custom thing ... Thanks so much for the info though; may still got the tri-y route.

The 2T has a celica steel box on it; I assume that's what the TA22 T50 gearbox is?

That means the clutch needs hydraulic-izing ... cool.

So the TA22 engine mounts will bolt the 2t engine onto the corolla Xmember?

Does this mean that I can use the stock diff?

The front strut setup is pretty complicated there... is this the best way? There isn't a simpler way? (not a huge problem, just thinking about when parts need to be replaced)

Looks like it's a good idea though.

I will be collating and printing this gear off asap!!

Oh, old corolla bloke - I was wondering about that manifold ... I thought Datrally only did datsun too, but aparenly not ... no matter ...

How much did you want for the parts you have? They are pretty much next on my list of 'must get' parts.

  9. A 2T motor is really easy to fit into KE30-55

What I used in ,y last conversion.

    - TA22 Engine mounts on the standard X-member

    - TA22 Pedal box bolts into KE30

    - TA22/23/RA23 clutch master

    - TA22 clutch slave

    - AE71 gearbox X-member

    - Cut down KE30 tailshaft (30mm shorter)

    - TA22 T50 gearbox

Umm I think thats it, if I have missed anything let me know.

so you used the standard rubber section of the mount? didnt you have to remake the steel section that bolts to the block?

i remember the angle was wrong and the rubber would die after a short time........maybe you did some thing different to me

  10. Nah man it was only a picture of a random corolla...

I think that car should be a 4K not a 3K.....any way about 25/65 on the stock carby. problem is the fuel bowl capacity. they dry the bowl in second gear with a big cam.

try a 7K with twin webers that will entertain you for a while or chuck in a 3T

    old corolla bloke

  11. I can help with a manifold for twin webers on a t series and a pair of carbs ....wont be $1600 bucks either......hmmm datrally was usually for a DATSUN and is a copy or the works nissan competion manifold. don't think it would fit but if you want one I got one of those too, actually I know it wont fit. but I'm an old smart arse.

    any way

engine mounts are custom made but not that hard

extractors are half custom you can use the top half of a set of the old sonics 4into 2 into 1 that is the 4 into 2 section the make a new bottom bit. try cambletown exhaust for sonics but they probably arent called that 20 years later!!

wiring is pretty easy as most of the parts are on the same side as the k series ...you will need to do some extensions but its not that hard.

don't RUSH IT....this will take a few days so boorow the car for 2 weeks

    old corolla bloke

  12. was realy just after the diagrams but if people can help would be just as good, whats hapend is my mum tidyd my garage with out asking and chucked out the part of the wiring that goes from the positive battery terminal to evrything, i know the main wire goes to the starter but I'm real confused about where all the other wires used to go. is it just the regulator and some other things????

just a thought .....if mums chucked out the wiring you need go to a wrecker and remove the wiring you need and make note of where it goes as you do it

  13. Ok finally gonna stop looking at all the bits and pieces laying around in the shed and start putting the 4age into my car, seeing I lost my liecence for trying to drag a unmarked cop car.

Does anyone know where I can get a manifold to fit two 40mm weber side draghts?

Whats the sieral number or name of the bearing that i need to get for the flywheel?

Can i use a AE86 water pump? Or would it make things worse?

Do I have to shim the bearing if I got gearbox out of a AE71, which was bolted onto a 4A motor?

I'll start putting pics up of how it coming together when I start.

    Thanks

Ive got a manifold $220 its yours, you pay postage probably around $25

    got carbs too if needed

  14. yeah the brakes are good, crona disks and calipers on the front and the back, bolted straight on pretty much, I'm looking at the suspention at the moment, its lowered and bump steers heaps, still it handles like it on rails

try to find some 2TB twin carbies they were plentiful 10 15 years ago.......nobody wanted them because we all used twin webers.

depends on how fast you want to go!! horsepower cost money. the t series is a capable engine in that car Id stick with it.

Ive read every post in this topic and there are a few that raised my eyebrows a bit.

you can bore a 2T / 3T to 89mm.......down side last use of the block and custom made head gaskets are now alittle hard to get on a weekend. try for the 88.5mm from toms but still needs a custom head gasket.

a 3t crank will fit into a 2T block with the use of a die grinder and a few hours ......no big deal

now just whacking a twin cam head on a push rod block is a bit more trouble as basically you need a donor twin cam for the timing cover manifold carbies etc etc. easier to put a 3T crank into the twin cam 2TG.......remember the die grinder!!!

theres been a few comments concerning compression from people whom obviously havent done the conversion.....its fine but will need at least premium to run on.

my 2cents is take a standard 3t put some 2TB carbs on and drive it to death ,the engine swap in the car is so quick a toddler could do it as every thing interchanges....well most any way

shave the head 30 thou or 50thou if your going to put in a cam

you can spend a bucket of money on this motor and get pretty good horsepower even by todays standards but its really not worth it in the long run.

  15. hey i have the standard suspension on the toyota seca 1989 model

my cars suspension is gone as i get way to much body roll and if the car is full the car scarpes ova speed humps also i got one wheel (back wheel) of the ground on a turn

i would like to know if any one would know how much ultra lows would cost (without them instialing it. as i will do it at home)

I Live in Perth WA if any one knows plz post back

    thank u very much :D

I must ask...... why would you go lower if it already scrapes?

Try wilkinson suspension centre for cost of springs

  16. Hey cheers mate but i called up cypher not long ago and its getting done through them oh well, and i have changed my mind and decided to go for the 4AGZE and getting a few bit of pieces like cooler, boost controller ect so maybe its best but thanks for the offer.

and AE70 I searched for what company's have done this conversion on here and other forums and to no avail that is why I posted the topic. I wanted to find out what company's have done it before and who people recommend before going out and spending 2-5k on my car isnt that what forums are all about?

    Hi

well the guys a cypher will do a good job......however if I may I would like to offer some advice. I have owned three 20valve conversion which I did myself and a GZE or two allong the way as well also done myself. from a modification perspective yes the GZE will yield more mid range and top end power a little easier than a 20v BUT in terms of a user friendly engine the 20v has it all over the GZE.

I seriously urge you to consider a black top 20v over the GZE. my two cents but Ive converted at least ten and would say that of the ones I did for other people the 20v retained ownership the longest. food for thought.

if you would like pm me a number and i will call .....

  17. don't know if youve tried this................new here

ke30 sumitomo calipers and backing plate will bolt to the ke 20 hub with out redrilling.

that way u get a slightly bigger disc 1" or so...was good on the old rally car anyway.

use mazda rims to over come the increased size 110pcd
