V8 SUPERCARS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES
The Clipsal 500 Adelaide, is the first round of the 2014 V8 Supercars Championship Series, and is Australia's largest domestic motor sport event.
The 2014 Clipsal 500 Adelaide will be the sixteenth race to be held in Adelaide with the event first being held in April 1999.
The mountain at Bathurst may be iconic, but the drivers say the challenge of Adelaide's street circuit is perhaps even greater and the taste of victory equally sweet.
In 2014 Clipsal 500 will experience the biggest single change in its history.
The concept of V8 Supercars competing over 500 kilometres around the streets of Adelaide remains at the “core’ or “DNA” of the event, but in 2014 it will be conducted as two 125 kilometre races on the Saturday with a 250 kilometre race decider on the Sunday.
There will be more excitement, more drama, and even closer competition.
VOLVO ON THE 2014 V8 SUPERCARS GRID
Volvo will be on the V8 Supercars Championship grid in 2014 with two Volvo S60s and the first time you will see them will be at the Clipsal 500.
As the first luxury brand to join the V8 Supercars Championship with a factory team, Volvo Car Australia has joined forces with Volvo Car Group's global motorsport partner Polestar to go racing. Together, they will partner with the well-respected Garry Rogers Motorsport team to form Volvo Polestar Racing, the first formalised factory team from a luxury car brand.

The Dunlop Series has become iconic in developing the next generation of motorsport stars with this year being no different. The series still remains the core breeding ground for future V8 Supercar stars and can’t go unmissed with past drivers graduating to race in the main game.
PORSCHE CARRERA CUP AUSTRALIA
The Porsche Carrera Cup Australia championship will open its 2014 season at the ever popular Clipsal 500. In 2014 the Series introduces a brand new version of the 911 GT3 Cup car that may look the same to many but has increased performance and many innovations in the area of driver safety including a rescue hatch in the roof. The German thoroughbreds are truly at home on the Adelaide street layout.
TOURING CAR MASTERS
By popular demand the Touring Car Masters grid featuring Boss Mustangs, Camaros, Falcon GT’s, Chrysler Chargers and Porsche is back. The cars are legendary and so are the drivers with the likes of John Bowe, Jim Richards, Glenn Seton, and Greg Crick behind the wheel.
FORMULA 3
Open-wheelers that are the fastest cars in the nation. These are the only machines in the country that can provide a stepping stone to Formula 1 and there is no-where more appropriate for them to race than on Adelaide’s former Grand Prix circuit.
V8 UTES
The mighty utes were introduced to the Australian racing scene right here in Adelaide. It’s Ford and Holden rivalry in race tuned “tradie” machines. What they might lack in finesse is certainly made up for in panel crunching action.
AUSSIE RACING CARS
Small in stature and big on performance, the thirty plus car grids make the ‘mini’ versions of Toyota, Holden and Ford replicas a sure fire crowd favourite. Three and four wide through the corners is not only possible, it’s just about the norm.

ABOUT THE RACE
The Clipsal 500 Adelaide, is the first round of the 2014 V8 Supercar Championship Series, and is Australia's largest domestic motor sport event.

In 2013, the event was attended by a massive crowd of 286,500 patrons over the four days with the first ever sell out on the Sunday of the event. The event also launched the New Generation V8 Supercar and introduced two new manufacturers with Nissan and Erebus Motorsport joining the grid.
NEW RACE FORMAT FOR 2014
It's the biggest single change to the Clipsal 500 Adelaide in its 15 year history.

The exciting new format also includes a totally new evening race schedule with the first of the 39 lap V8 Supercars events scheduled to start at around 4.30pm* and the second starting around 7pm*. Then on Sunday, the cars line-up again for the 250 kilometre leg of the Clipsal 500 Adelaide. Another first for Adelaide, and double the excitement for the fans!
On top of this there will also be supporting race categories throughout the event including the Porsche Carrera Cup, Touring Car Masters, Formula 3, V8 UTES and the Aussie Racing Cars.

17 year old Todd Hazelwood won the 2013 Shannons Supercar Showdown by less than a tenth of a second after a nail-biting grand final showdown with Tim Macrow on 7mate last Saturday.
In the definitive clash of youth and experience, the young South Australian overcame early nerves to defeat his older and more experienced Victorian opponent in a hot lap shoot out at Melbourne’s Calder Park Raceway.
Hazelwood and Macrow were each given two timed five-lap sessions on the full-length circuit, driving the Shannons V8 Supercar prepared by 2013 Bathurst 1000 winners Ford Performance Racing.
By recording the fastest individual lap time, Hazelwood claimed the ultimate prize - a testing contract with FPR plus a drive in the Dunlop Series in a Shannons-sponsored V8 Supercar.
At the start of the 2013 series, eight contestants were split into two teams each comprising four rookies, headed by Ford Performance Racing’s V8 Supercar drivers and team captains Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom.
Grand finalists Hazelwood and Macrow were the last of eight contestants remaining after a series of point-scoring challenges and a semi-final fought out over the previous seven weeks.
31 year old Macrow carried winning momentum into the grand final, after a peerless performance for Team Davison in the point-scoring rounds with four wins from seven challenges.
Hazelwood’s path to the finals was in complete contrast, having finished the point-scoring rounds in last place and relying on his skipper Will Davison’s “gut instinct” Captain’s Choice to get him through.
Macrow was first to hit the track in the grand final and showed plenty of class in his initial five-lap session with a fast and mistake-free drive that threw down the gauntlet to his younger opponent.
A clearly nervous Hazelwood struggled to match Macrow’s speed in his first session, describing it as “pretty scrappy” but confident he could calm his nerves and improve in the final run.
Macrow showed he was also feeling the heat of grand final fever in his last five-lap stint, locking a front brake and running off the circuit before recovering for a strong finish.
Hazelwood really got his act together in the last session and put everything on the line, impressing judges Winterbottom and Davison with his focus, discipline and speed under enormous pressure.
Todd’s winning margin of less than .01 of a second – the blink of an eye – showed how closely matched the two grand finalists were and how either driver would have been a deserving winner of the 2013 Shannons Supercar Showdown.

17 year old Hazelwood and 31 year old Macrow emerged as the winners of an intense four-way duel with UK Formula Ford star Daniel Cammish and V8 Ute racer Craig Dontas.
Each of the semi-finalists was given five laps on a shortened Calder Park circuit to show what they could do behind the wheel of a V8 Supercar prepared by 2013 Bathurst 1000 winners Ford Performance Racing.
The two rookies to emerge with the fastest aggregate times went through to the grand final while the two slowest contestants were sent home by team captains and FPR V8 Supercar drivers Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison.

The EFR line of turbochargers was born out of an internal BorgWarner Turbo Systems program labeled Advanced Aftermarket Products or AAP.
The program was engineered by a cross-functional team that began with the proverbial clean-sheet of paper. No legacy products, no preconceived notions of what a turbocharger could or could not have; no restrictions. The aerodynamics for the product line were selected using a range of optimized combinations that would give users turbocharger solutions anywhere between 250 and 1000 horsepower capability per turbo. Next, a list of every notable design characteristic for an engine boosting device was tabled. Specific interest was given to new ideas that had never been formed in metal or had never been combined into an aftermarket turbo.
The result is the new EFR (Engineered for Racing) line of turbochargers from BorgWarner. These turbochargers contain a bevy of key attributes such as Gamma Ti turbine wheels, dual ceramic ball bearing cartridges and investment cast stainless steel turbine housings. Collectively, those features help give the EFR line its innovative appeal and will provide a breakthrough experience in durability, device responsiveness and installer/user satisfaction.

FITNESS FULLY TESTED AS YOUNG ROOKIES STEP UP IN 2013 SHANNONS SUPERCAR SHOWDOWN
Episode four of the Shannons Supercar Showdown on 7mate last Saturday featured an intriguing mix of horse power and human power, as some younger V8 rookies again top scored to increase the pressure on their older rivals.
The eight contestants pushed their strength and endurance to the limit in a gruelling series of fitness tests from which Team Davison emerged unbeaten with $500 Adrenalin gift vouchers awarded to each team member.
England’s Adrian Campfield (24) and V8 Ute racer Craig Dontas (33) also provided a contrast of youth and experience by top scoring for their respective teams in the driving challenge, while another young gun Macauley Jones (18) scored a crucial bonus point for achieving the highest speed.
The two teams, each comprising four rookies, are headed by Ford Performance Racing’s V8 Supercar drivers and team captains Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison. The eight contestants face more demanding challenges in coming weeks as they compete for the ultimate prize – a testing contract with FPR plus a drive in the Dunlop Series in a Shannons-sponsored V8 Supercar.
The first challenge saw Team Winterbottom and Team Davison face off in the Adrenalin Skills Challenge, comprising three demanding tests of the rookies’ physical strength, stamina and ability to work together as teams.
The three challenges required moving heavy vehicle tyres in a variety of ways including two relay events plus flat-dragging a 40 kg truck tyre across bitumen using tow ropes and body harnesses.
Muscle burn, fatigue and lapses in concentration surfaced as the exhausted rookies pushed themselves to breaking point, with Team Davison emerging unbeaten in an impressive display of fitness and teamwork.
Week four of the series also required the contestants to compete in the Start Line Challenge at Calder Park Raceway, behind the wheel of the V8-powered Shannons Fastrack Racing Challenge Car.
This was a drag race against the stopwatch on a classic 1/8th mile strip with a narrow and tricky chicane installed just before the finish line. The fastest driver from each team earned top points, with heavy penalties applying for hitting the marker cones.
The wet and slippery conditions were tailor-made for V8 Ute racer Craig Dontas who top scored for Team Winterbottom. UK open wheeler racer Adrian Campfield was the real surprise, with a fast and flawless run to score his first challenge win for Team Davison.
At the half-way mark, Tim Macrow now holds a slender one-point lead over Craig Dontas but growing confidence and top-scoring performances by their younger rivals in recent weeks has set the stage for a nail-biting second half of the series.

Points Gap Tightens as Young Guns Find Form in 2013 Shannons Supercar Showdown
School age V8 rookies came out firing in a thrilling third episode of the Shannons Supercar Showdown on 7mate last Saturday, closing the points gap to their older and more experienced peers,who now have a real fight on their hands.
16-year-old Todd Hazelwood - the youngest contestant in the series - and 17-year-old ‘wild child’ James Golding were two of the four top points scorers to emerge from another crucial pair of challenges.
The teenagers overcame early nerves to score maximum points for their respective teams, each comprising four rookies headed by Ford Performance Racing’s V8 Supercar drivers and team captains Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison.
The eight contestants face increasingly tough challenges in the weeks ahead as they compete for the ultimate prize – a testing contract with FPR plus a drive in the Dunlop Development Series in a Shannons-sponsored V8 Supercar.
The first challenge in week three was to get behind the wheel of a 125 hp Formula Ford single seater racing car capable of 250 km/h top speeds. Each V8 rookie was allowed two flying laps of the test track against the clock – the driver with the fastest time earned the most points.
Formula Three racer Todd Hazelwood (16) top scored for Team Davison with an impressive display of his open wheeler driving skills while the UK’s Daniel Cammish (24) proved his British Formula Ford championship pedigree by scoring maximum points for Team Winterbottom.
Overly aggressive driving by teenage tearaway James Golding led to instant disqualification from the Formula Ford Challenge when he came to a smoking halt during his timed run after causing serious gearbox damage.
Next up was the V8 Hot Lap Challenge which required each of the eight contestants to climb aboard the booming ShannonsFastrack Racing V8 Challenge Car for two more flying laps of Calder Park against the stopwatch.
The V8 rookies were not only competing for the fastest time and top points but also trying to impress Ford Performance Racing Team Principal Tim Edwards, who was in attendance and will be making the final decision on who wins the coveted FPR testing contract.
The raw speed of 17-year-old James Golding helped make amends for his disqualification from the Formula Ford Challenge by setting the fastest time for Team Winterbottom. Overall points leader Tim Macrow (31) made sure the young guns didn’t take a clean sweep of the rich points on offer though by setting fastest time in the V8 Hot Lap Challenge for Team Davison.
Macrow now holds a slender three-point lead over Team Winterbottom’s Craig Dontas (33) but their younger rivals are starting to pile on the pressure approaching the series’ half-way point.

MATURITY CONTINUES TO SHINE BRIGHT IN STORMY 2013 SHANNONS SUPERCAR SHOWDOWN
31-year-old Formula Three driver Tim Macrow and 33-year-old V8 Ute racer Craig Dontas used their superior skills and experience to overcome atrocious conditions in the second exciting week of the Shannons Supercar Showdown on 7mate last Saturday.
The week one winners gave their younger rivals another lesson in high performance driving under maximum pressure, by emerging as top point scorers from a pair of new challenges featuring go karts and wet tracks that tested the eight V8 rookies to the limit.
Under the show’s new format, Macrow and Dontas again scored maximum points for their respective teams, each comprising four rookies headed by Ford Performance Racing’s V8 Supercar drivers and team captains Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison.
The eight contestants face more challenges in coming weeks as they compete for the ultimate prize - a testing contract with FPR plus a drive in the Dunlop Series in a Shannons-sponsored V8 Supercar.
Under dark and threatening skies, Saturday’s showdown commenced with a Go Karting Challenge at the Go Kart Club of Victoria’s demanding Port Melbourne track.
Each rookie was given two flying laps against the clock to try and set the fastest time, driving an Arrow Kart that could reach speeds of 100 km/h – Macauley Jones comes to a disappointing finish.
Prior to this challenge the rookies were told that the fastest driver would receive a $500 Adrenalin gift voucher. What they were not told was that the winner would also earn a crucial bonus point.
Tim Macrow proved his supreme performance in the first week was no fluke by clocking the fastest time - but it was a close call. The youngest driver in the competition, 16-year-old Todd Hazelwood, finished runner-up by a mere 0.02 of a second.
The competition then switched to base camp at Melbourne’s Calder Park Raceway for the Wet Track Challenge, which required the rookies to strap into the Shannons Fastback Racing V8 Challenge Car to test their wet weather driving skills against the clock on a tricky course that was half dry, half wet.
10-second time penalties applied for spinning out, hitting a marker cone or not stopping in the designated zone. However, the entire course was soon engulfed by torrential rain when a violent thunderstorm erupted over Calder Park.
Age and experience again shone through the gloom though as the eldest contestants -Macrow and Dontas put in fast and faultless drives in the slippery conditions to each score maximum points.
Team Davison’s Macrow now leads the competition by a single point from Team Winterbottom’s Dontas, leaving their six young arrivals hungrier than everto try and level the score when they face their next round of challenges in episode three.

New Aussie driver Daniel Ricciardo will attempt to beat Mark Webber's Sydney Motorsport Park Grand Prix Circuit lap time of 1:13.606.
There will also be the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, Stig Powerlaps, Stunt driving, Drifting, Postie Bike Challenge, Car Football and a whole lot more.
