Swap the extension housing from the 5 speed you just pulled out onto the KE70 5 speed, and it will bolt straight back in :) I have done this myself on many occasions.

 

The KE70 gearbox will bolt onto the engine identically to the older 5 speed you have

 

yeah, I read a post somewere on here saying the don't swap :P . but I was tinkering today & i thought they looked the same so I just tried it & hey presto it fits. Will work a treat, I wont have to change my cross member and wont have to cut more holes in the floor. :)

I know for a fact they work. The gearbox in the car I just drove home in has a KE70 5 speed with a KE55 extension housing on it, and has been like that for about 4 years :)
