Ke20 And 25 Grills

hey guy's

 

this has probably been asked before but I noticed with KE20's and KE25's member's car pics that nearlly every car has a different grill. Is this because KE20 and KE25 are interchangable?

It's also because Toyota in their infinite wisdom seemed to change grille styles every three months. Earlies are interchangeable with earlies, lates with lates, although there may be a few exceptions.

Well here is my findings.

 

 

I have an early KE20, and an early KE 25.

 

I also have a late KE20 and a late KE25.

 

(Go the old corolla!!!)

 

I know that the early KE 25 grill and the late KE 25 grills will not fit each other. They have different mounting points on the car.

 

I think the same is true for the KE20's. But I haven't physically tried them or measured them against each other.

 

Also I know that the early KE 20 grill does not fit the early KE25. (tried that too).

I love the body size of the 20's but love the grill on the 25's. hmmmmmm which to choose???????????????

They arent all that difficult to adapt. On one of mine their is an early grill on a late ke20. Just have to drill a few holes if i remember correctly.

on a similar vein, does anyone know about exchangability of front end trims? particularly the horizontal trim that sits below grille. ive got an early series ke20 missing this trim, picked up the style trim that has the two letter box slots, but it doesnt span all the way between the corner edge indicator trims :yes: . anyone know of one that does?

theres 6 different corolla ke2 style grills that i've come across.. in those 6 there's 3 different mounting positions. also there is a pair of grills to each mounting position as in pic. two on left. two middle and two right are the matching pairs.

 

early ke20/25/26 seem to have been fitted with the 4 styles on the left. late ke20/26 with the 'pointy front' bonnet had the one 2nd from right and only late ke25 has the far right.

early jdm te27 have the plastic grill 2nd from left and late te27 grill on far right

sprinter/trueno grills is another thing altogether. seen at least 3 variations of grill in web pics.

as to corner trims. i believe there be 4 different corolla styles. two types with indicators and two without. the 4 grills on left have indicator corners. the late type don't have indicators.. as they're on the guard. most common would be the late type ke20/26 non indicator corner
