GBKE15 Posted May 4, 2007 Report Posted May 4, 2007 I have been trying to find ke20 parts at every yard that I go to and there just haven't been any. I have found several first gen rx7's and have a early model with lsd available to use. I am fine with the rx7 wheel pattern and it seems that they should be strong enough behind a 3k. I think that I can do the rear axle fairly easy. I aslo want to try to use the front struts/hub/brakes and the proportioning valve from an rx7. Do you think that this possible? Thanks, Glenn Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 5, 2007 Report Posted May 5, 2007 (edited) Anythings posible with enough time and money!!!!! :S I think you'll find an rx7 diff would be a bit wide for a ke20! Are ke20's coil or leaf? I don't actually know! but gen 1 rx7's are coil. Also series 1 & 2 rx7's are 4 x 110 PCD the same as a ke20, but no LSD's are available for these guys unless you fork out around $1500 for a Guru custom centre. series 3 rx7's (still gen1) did have factory race LSD's that are still available if you look hard enough in average condition (not new) for around $600-800, but s3's actually have 4 x 114.3 PCD like a ke30-55, so you'd have to change stud pattern to use that diff. As for the front struts, anything is possible if you have the patients and a bit of spare cash!! A mate of mine modified s2 rx7 front struts into his old race capella. The bolt spacings were the struts bolt onto the ball joints are slightly different for the cap to rx7 so he used made up a small adapter plate that used 1 common bolt at the back and then one from the bottom on the ball joint and 1 from top in the strut. This actually also moved the bottom of the strut forward and outward which was good for the race setup of the car. He also had the option of using a coil over kit and koni inserts that were available for the rx7 strut but not the capella. As for the top hats, get some k-mac etc adjustable strut tops for the rx7 struts and mod them to fit the ke20 towers. Just on gen 1 front brakes, there not bad, my mate used them on the race car with good pads, but depending on what you want, they could be better. If your going to go to the effort of doing all of the above, you'd might aswell go the whole hog on the front stuts and modify some s4-5 rx7 4 pot calipers and discs onto the gen 1 struts!! Think that about covers it!! :hmm: Edited May 5, 2007 by Taz_Rx Quote
GBKE15 Posted May 5, 2007 Author Report Posted May 5, 2007 That's cool. They are actually going on a ke15, which is drum all around. I like the rx7 wheels that I am running now and really don't mind the bolt pattern. It seems that worst case you could cut the plate/connector off of the bottom of the ke15 strut and have it welded to the bottom of the rx7 and it would line everything up properly. Also the diff that I have is a GSL rear from a first gen. The GSL's had the db and lsd here in the US. Thanks for the info taz. Glenn Quote
Taz_Rx Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Ah sorry man, didn't realise you were a yank. Yeah different kettle of fish with lsd's etc over there then. :S Quote
