icarus1314 Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 hi guys~~ need some help here with my new car ^^ it a 1991 AE92 Automatic, on the engine it say 4A but i am no too sure which of the 4A family it is.... sure it not a 4AGE lol there are few question i hope you guys can help me out, so any suggestion or idea is most welcome ^^ i don't know much about mechanic, at the moment i think it's around 60KW, i am no askin for too much increase so what is the easiest way to increase the power KWs apart from changing the engine? if i just change the air filter pod thing, and the exust piping and stuff how much power will that increase O_O? one of my friend told me that recondition the engine might help a bit, so any idea how much that might cost??? and if i have to change the engine, say to a 4AGE which seems to be a easier fit, do i have to look for perticular 4AGE that fits into an automatic car? or are they all the same? or are they other engine that might go in bit easier? in terms of changing engine, what else need to go with it for the AE92? so that is about all the question i am wondering at the moment, plz help me out ^^ thanks alot for the attention guys~ Quote
7shades Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 Doing a search on this forum will yield a wealth of knowledge, and probably answers to most of the questions you ask, as most have been asked before. But, just quickly... You have a 4A-FE engine. Built more for economy rather than power. Not many upgrade parts are available for this engine... mainly because modifying a 4A-GE gets better results, as they were designed to be a performance engine. You can get parts like headers and pod filters for the 4AFE, but the minimal power increase you'll get from these mods alone probably won't justify the cost. Being front wheel drive, engine upgrades are quite easy. There are several variants of the 4AGE, all of which will bolt up to your automatic gearbox just fine. I'd probably recommend a silvertop 20 valve 4AGE... they are cheap, readily available, and rev like a bastard :) Easy swap too. Quote
Sam_Q Posted March 14, 2008 Report Posted March 14, 2008 a set of extractors might be the way to go, if you can get a flange it wouldnt be that hard to adapt the 20v extractors which normally sell exceptionaly cheap. Again no promises on the power gain. Another one is to fit a 4age trd metal head gasket or 7afe head gasket to raise the compression. Quote
