Greetings all, you may or may not be aware that i am in the process of making my 4age ke70 legal down here in SA. Last time i jumped under the car in my mates pit we had a good look at the underside of it for anything might stick out - and think we found something.

For the ae71 gearbox crossmember, which now has the t50 sitting on it, we were only able to line up and do up 2x bolts (1 each side) with the existing thread etc that was there from the old gearbox crossmember. Main concern is this is going to look bad when it goes over the pits due to them no doubt questioning the structural strength of just 2 bolts, where there used to be 4. The other "holes" in the cross member to allow the other two bolts to be done up sits outside of the mounting points for the old cross member

Have we f$#ked up the install of the crossmember (back to front or something), or have you other guys that have done it only secured the ae71 gearbox crossmember with one bolt either side?

Can probably get a pic tomorrow when its dry if that helps!

Thanks! :S

With my T50 cross member, it's being held on by two bolts (one each side). I'm not sure where you got '4' from? I just ran outside to take a look at my standard K50 cross member and that was only held on by 2 bolts too (one each side).

Under the car though, there's two bolt holes each side. I just used the holes the cross member lined up with.

Edit: I put in my cross member like this one,

So that the cross member's bending like.... <-front of car (

Cool, thanks Adam! I figured cause there were two holes for bolts there that it had 2 bolts, but I'm fine to only have the two (1 each side) if thats all it had before! Might go out and check that mine is setup like yours - like you though, we just used the hole that lined up :S

edit - just went and checked, and mine is the same :D thanks for clearing that up!

No worries. :S

Could it be that one pair of the holes were made for the K50 cross member and the other was made for the T50 cross member from Toyota? Like they used the same chassis for both the KE's and AE's so they just made four holes altogether so that which ever model the shell was made as, the bolt holes were there?

Hehe hope that made sense. Either way, we got the cross members to fit and all works well.
