KE30Coupe Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 I've done all the searches of the Forums & WIKI and Oldrollas FAQ and I think I know generally what I'm looking for. I still have some questions though :) I am currently running a stock 3k however there will be extractors & probably a mild cam at a later date. Looking to end up with a strong, grunty little engine suitable for street & the occasional run in a club level motokhana. On Oldcorollas it says the following One of the best carbs I think you can find for one of these is a Weber 28/36 DCD from a Mk1 GT Ford Cortina. You probably wouldn't want to go much bigger than that. So I'll ask the experts out there is this what we are talking about and if so what would be a reasonable price. ebayyyyyy OR do I look to the twin option with something like this Ebay again plus a manifold costing around $110 as quoted here so total cost maybe $200 Given I'm on a very tight budget I was thinking of the weber but I really don't know. Will there be a big difference in performance with the twins Vs the weber given that I'm not planning too many mods at this stage? Thanks in advance. Quote
KE30Coupe Posted May 5, 2005 Author Report Posted May 5, 2005 Oh my god, nice SU's *drool* I wouldn't have posted that here Really....damn it. Perhaps if I put up links to other SU's available on Ebay it will distract them :) SU's HERE and also HERE and don't forget HERE and last but not least HERE Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 the carb section of the wiki severely needs a rewrite :) it's probably one of the first ever pages i did, and haven't changed since but yeah, for a downdraft, something like a 28/36 DCD or 34DMS would go nicely. something with a small primary choke to keep the airspeed up down low, so your car has good response and isn't a boggy piece of garbage to drive. there is a rare 32/36 DGV with 23mm? 24mm? primary chokes, that would be good sidedrafts are nice, but they chew fuel and cost lots of money. a larger downdraft (such as one of the webers above) is cheap and easy to get working. but yeah, personally i have been quite enamoured with SU carbs since i found out about them, kicked myself i didn't buy a pair that came up for sale about 2 years ago, and recently got a bargain on some that should hopefully need minimum tuning on my engine SUs rock Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 for a 3k, i think you might want HS2 1.25" carbs, or a single HS4 1.5". twin HS4s are pretty borderline for a worked 4K. you'd put twin HS2s on a worked 1100 mini engine as much as they don't have the best mixture qualities, i still have a soft spot for the twin aisan carbs on corolla sprinter manifold, you can find them from time to time, usually $250 or so Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 32/36's are so f'n common out here....i bought a brand new one for 300 Quote
