Ke70 - 4k 32/36 Webber..... What Cam? And Jets?

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

I'm a noob when it comes to carby car and cams in general.... only worked on a Sr20 really..

so here is the gist

Have a 4k in a 84 ke70...

ATM everyting is stock on the engine bar a disc style filter.

i have a 32/36 webber to go on it and an exhaust as well.... basically i want to know what cam i should run or can run without having to change to much stuff like valve springs ect ect...

i wouldn;t mind some lump in my idle as that would be swell but more just want a bit more range and what not.

also can anyone tell me a base guide on what jets to use in my carb so i know where to start the tuning around.

Any info would help heaps

cheers Nich

Ps: anyone has a cheap cam F/S that will do good PM me :hmm:

G`day mate, the carby, cam ,exhaust combo, added to extractors will help give you a bit more power, but nothing startling. It`s not gunna turn it into a drift car. Check the link to the thread about building a tuff 4k. I found it to be a great help when I started the rebuild on my 4k.

http://www.rollaclub.com/faq/index.php?tit...a_tough_K_motor

Good luck with the build.

32/36 might be too big but i know a few people using them and I'm doing a couple of other things that might help it not be so big ( if you get me)

re jetting it for a 4k as well so that should help and i got a good con one for cheap so I'm going with it still....

now i need to know what specs to get my cam reground at....

been reading through the tough k motor buid thread and saw that i can do upto 0.400 lift without having to change the valve springs.... but to be honest thats about all i picked up as i really know nothing about cams.

i don't might having to get bigger if that the right way of putting it springs as there not that $$$ but i would rather having to do it ....

so i guess whats the biggest specs on a cam i can go with out having to really change anything else that would be worth doing? i drive up in the revs most the time so low down isn;t all that importaint.

any help would be good

Here`s another site to have a look at. http://www.tighecams.com.au/cars.htm You can actually ring them and explain what you want to do and they will reccomend a cam grind for you. They are a very reputable company and have been in business for a dogs age.

CT003 621

Fair idle, good bottom end and mid range power designed for engines with limited modifications.

RPM RANGE 2500-6500

MAN

HI-STALL

24-56 63-21

260° 264°

220° 223°

×396² ×399²

108°

×015² ×015²

that seems with the lift to be spot on with out having to change the springs.... as its x399 lift......

but i want a rough idle haha

so my question is... what would i have to change to run this one?

CT003 609

Rough idle, strong mid range and top end. Recommended for modified engines. Min 9.5:1comp ratio.

RPM RANGE 3000-7000

MAN

HI-STALL

33-64 72-32

277° 284°

231° 235°

×430² ×433²

108°

×015² ×015²

numbers 3-4 on the 4k bit of that link.

2 looks pretty good too lol

I have a 609 in "Dirt". Don't actually have any up-rated valve springs (yet), 32/32 weber, extractors and a 2 inch system.

I also have a 3k head on to up the comp a bit.

IIHO picking a camshaft because of the noise it makes at idle is a bad idea. If thats the only thing steering you away from the 621 then maybe you should re-consider your choice. :y:

for once i think I'm acctuly going to listen :y:

as much as i would love the noise i know i will get over it after a little.. and i have been told that with a lightened flywheel it will be a little lumpy anyways....

so for what i have done you think a 621 is the right choice ? would i have to change anythig else?

6500rmp is high enough for my old 4k

haha well i think that answers the question then donesn't it :y:

thanks mate

Hey kids, i also have a question i may aswell put in this thread.

i have a 4K with 80 though off the head, 280deg 400thou lift cam with a 32/36.

anyone know what jets to order? i should i just put the stock carby on it ?

It runs shit to at low revs and midrange and have to ride the clutch hardcore to start off of hills, i need to fix it.

Got quoted around $300 to get it tuned as they don't know what to get and it takes alot of time. so i thorght i would ask you dudes.

cheers!

G`day mate, I am also doing a mild 4k and have had a read of the building a tuff 4k thread on this site. It states fairly clearly that a 32/36 is too big for the 4k. I happen to have a stock carby that some kind person has converted from vaccuum assisted secondaries, to constant dual throat. It was run with the same cam that I am using (31/70 )and with the same 3k head. I`m gonna give that a try and see if it comes up trumps.

If you still have your stock carb, why not give it a go. Its only an hour or so work to find out.

P.S. I am lucky enough to have two dgv webers and one of them has had 28mm venturies fitted. Maybe you should check what yours are and maybe discuss with your local dealer the availability of them and whether it will be worth your time changing.

You didn`t mention extractors and exhaust system. They make a pretty big difference when you start playing with a 4k.

Anyway, good luck.
