B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 8, 2010 Author Report Posted January 8, 2010 (edited) Simple. accelerator pump in the carb. If the pump is U.S. the carb will eventually catch up. This is 1st year apprentice problem solving. good luck ask more questions if required. U.S. = unserviceable Cool, seems to have been narrowed down. And if its first year shouldnt be too hard to fix. I'm learning as i go! Can it be replaced without a lot of hassle? Simple remove/replace while the carb is still on the car? And as above, is it a part i can get at repco? Or should i try source one from a wrecker. I have two days left till i go back to work, would love to sort this out before then, its the one mechanical gremlin i have. Sounds like the new plugs and leads i got today probably wasnt worth it, but always good to have freshies i suppose. EDIT: will this help with starting it too? She struggles a bit. B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 18, 2010 Author Report Posted February 18, 2010 think it is fixed now, well pretty much. Replaced the accelerator pump plunger with one out of a 5k carbie as the spare I bought was freaking plastic and I didnt trust it. Also while replacing it i noticed that the pump arm components were a bit loose and getting some lateral movement. A few washers and bits off a 3k and the 5k carb and she seems to go good now. There is still a slight issue when starting from standing as I need to keep the revs quite high but its down to under a second lag insteard of 3-4. Which I think is ok seeing as its a 28 year old car thats done 650,000 clicks. Once going she humms tho... I'm hoping this will be adressed with getting the timing done. New plugs and leads installed also so start up isnt as much of an issue. And as it hasnt been my daily I'm hoping once it has a decent run in and a thrash it'll clean out any other niggling cob webs. Cheers for all the advice. Quote
