Hey guys.

 

Basically ive taken my steering gear out of my KE25 and I can't get em to pull apart...

 

what ive done is dropped it all from the idler arm to the pitman arm.

 

I can't get the inner/outer tie rods off, or the pitman arm or as well the steering knuckles and ball joints out of the LCAs for that matter...

 

its all out of the car. ive taken all clips and everything off so hmm...

 

Ive tried smashing em and everything, tried using a pickle fork but nothing will come loose... soaked em with WD40 as well.

 

I'm replacing it all but can't get em.

 

any help greatly appreciated...

yeah the taper can be well stuck sometimes!

 

with hammer, bashing, pickle fork etc you arent pressing the two apart, more like prying / separating one off the

other in mid air, you can brace the other half eg on the floor, brick etc but it would most likely damage the components.

it can be really really stuck and the above may never work!

 

enter the puller / breaker tools where the tool actually forces them apart, one directly off the other no bracing required,

and most time you get access to belt it with a hammer to shock it which sorts it out one time :lolcry:

 

will get some pics for ya, supercheap and tradetools carry them at around $25

Get the one on the top left for the Tie Rods. You might be able to use it for pitman arms too.

 

They've got more mechanical advantage than the direct acting pullers.

ok so I bought one of them ball joint/tie rod separators.

 

Got one tie rod off and one inner tie rod off but I started on the second tie rod and the head of the bolt snapped...

 

so now the tool really is no use to me...

 

might take it all down to a workshop on Monday and get it pulled apart as I fail at doing it myself :jamie:
