xmoht Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 I have been getting some pretty varied advice so I would love some clarification. If I put a 4AGE in my KE70, I have been told that I need aftermarket gauges for them to work with the engine, or at least the gauge cluster from something that originally had a 4AGE in it, AE92 Gti or the like. So my question is firstly, is this actually the case? If it is the case, would I need the exact same gauge cluster for the particular generation/model 4AGE? Or is it just the 4A-GE series use one set of wiring or whatever, and the 4A-FE would use another and so on? :D Quote
Medicine_Man Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 only need a modification to drive the tacho if you run multi-coil.. Quote
xmoht Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 only need a modification to drive the tacho if you run multi-coil.. I did a search before posting and noticed someone asking about the AE71 tacho gauge cluster for a 4AGE 20 valve. Is modifying the tacho on it simple enough? (Comparatively speaking that is?) Quote
Medicine_Man Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 question is are you using a stock single coil motor? otherwise why worry any further? how easy the mod is depends on how handy you are with electronics.. Quote

I would use the single coil yeah don't see any need for any more! Will that make it reasonably plug and play..? :D Quote
Medicine_Man Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 yeah, easy as, just use the original tacho wire to the coil.. some engines use an oil pressure sender not a switch too, may have to change that as well or from what i have seen the oil light just flickers.. Quote
