I've got 2 fuel pumps in my car, one is a facet to fill the surge tank, that's noisy and always has been, no problems there. The other is apparently out of a VL, and has always had a bit of a whirr to it, but I'm now noticing it a lot more, it's gotten a lot more noisy. The car still seems to drive okay, it revs alright and all that, doesn't appear to be leaning out. Is the noise an indication that the fuel pump is on it's way out? Also, looking through eBay (yay for eBay), there are so many fuel pumps listed up "to suit VL", but they're all different part numbers? They all look the same, is there a certain one that I should be choosing? This is to suit a small port 4AGE. I would assume that any pump suited to feed an RB30 should be sufficient for a 4AGE? Quote

And yes, my facet pump usually gets noisy when the tank gets low, but the VL one should always be getting fuel (from the surge tank) whether it is low or not. How much are the petro-ject ones? VL (well, Bosch ones of various model numbers and ratings, but all look the same) seem to go from about $100 brand new from eBay, apparently they retail for about $350. demuire Posted August 2, 2005 Author Report Posted August 2, 2005 Re VL fuel pumps: I've just been told (don't know how much truth) that Holden DID fit different pumps to the NA and Turbo VL's. However, the part number for the NA pump has now been superseeded by the Turbo pump, so if you go and buy a new one now, there is only 1 part number, and you'll get a turbo pump. BUT, if you go to the wreckers to pull a pump out, you may be getting a lower rated pump because when they came out from factory they did have different pumps... Quote

Obviously if the pump has been replaced then chances are it's a VL turbo pump (since all the other part numbers have apparently been merged into 1) Quote
