ancullen Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 Here's some pics from the 2005 Rejex Rally. Please note the cool stickers Nick made up for me, they looked great (although I could have done a better design for him to work with). Quote
ancullen Posted August 1, 2005 Author Report Posted August 1, 2005 And more: And because I like shiny things: :P :bash: :y: :P :D     Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 YAY starlets are phat :P what's done to it? Quote
ancullen Posted August 2, 2005 Author Report Posted August 2, 2005 Nothing, aside from removing the backseat and spare wheel. So it was pretty nice to beat an R33 Skyline GTR (again) and a FPV GT-P. :P Oh, as well as a Mini Moke driven by an advanced driving instructor who does this sort of thing just about every day! Quote
ancullen Posted August 2, 2005 Author Report Posted August 2, 2005 Of course, we are considering either a 5E-FHE or a 4E-FTE for next years event. I'm leaning towards the 5E-FHE if I do do anything to it. Quote
ancullen Posted August 2, 2005 Author Report Posted August 2, 2005 Of course, if we do happen to win again next year, the other half may take it the year after (and get my sister to navigate), and I'll try and have the Corolla registered and ready to compete. I'd love to be able to get some nice tail out sideways action happening. It wouldn't make me go quicker, but it'd impress all the kids that watch, and that's even more fun! :P :bash: :y: Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 that totally owns, my friend who used to have a starlet is going to LOVE that story what's the H in the 5E? i've heard of guys with good 4E-FTE setups change to 5E bottom ends and actually go slower, food for thought Quote
ancullen Posted August 2, 2005 Author Report Posted August 2, 2005 No-one seems to know what the H stands for (I've got a funny feeling it's because it might have higher lift cams). I know that the 5E-FHE has 110hp compared with the 5E-FE's 100hp. It's not a huge difference, but it's a bit. The 4E-FTE has 135hp, but I want the car easy to register, and I don't want to have to deal with turbo boost while trying to grip my way out of a handbrake turn. A 1NZ-FE out of an Echo Sportivo would be nice, but expensive and harder to register, but having an all-alloy motor instead of a iron-block motor would rock. Quote
Super Jamie Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 could also be high compression, they run 9.8:1 as opposed to a 5E-FE's 9.4, but the jap spec 5E-FE runs 9.8 so hmm. i must say, after driving that galant, i like the linear power delivery of a good na motor as well, so i'd go the 5E :P i've often wondered if those echo engines are any good. i know they sound TOUGH AS A MOFO when you put a decent pipe on them :bash: Quote
ancullen Posted August 3, 2005 Author Report Posted August 3, 2005 Just checked today, and the 5E-FHE definitely has higher lift, longer duration cams, which would explain why it has the "H" designation, while the small port 4A-GE and 4A-GZE do not when compared with their bigport versions. If the "H" stood for High Compression, then we would have a 4A-GHE and 4A-GHZE/4A-GZHE. I've spent the morning looking for performance cams on the net, but can't seem to find any for either the 5E-FHE (or any E-engine) or the 2NZ-FE (or any NZ-engine). I'm certain I've seen them out there before. I'm still leaning very strongly towards the 5E-FHE, mainly because I'm hoping Miss_Sydney_Cruising is planning to drop a 4E-FTE in her Sera and will want to sell me her 5E-FHE. I think I might PM her right now and check. ;) Quote
