19914afc Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 Hi, I want to buy a cam for my new car it is a 1980 t18/te72 corolla with a 3tc 1.8 single cam engine, the only specs I have on the cam is it has 30/70 stamped on it. So does anyone know what this means I would like to know. Thanks. Quote
Felix Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 (edited) Google it. Seriously the only way to learn is to research things yourself. The websites of camshaft manufacturers are a good place for info. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/camshaft.htm Edited April 21, 2010 by Felix Quote
19914afc Posted April 21, 2010 Author Report Posted April 21, 2010 read that 30/70 would mean the intake valve opens 30deg btdc and closes 70deg atdc does anyone know if that is right? then the exhaust valve opens 70deg atdc and closes 30deg before (I forgot) Quote
Felix Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 (edited) read that 30/70 would mean the intake valve opens 30deg btdc and closes 70deg ABDC. then the exhaust valve opens 70deg BBDC and closes 30deg ATDC (I forgot) Nearly got it. The above cam has 280 degrees duration with 60 degrees overlap. Really it is just simple maths when you get your head around the concepts. Edited April 21, 2010 by Felix Quote

snot35 Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 I'd say it would be OK for daily use if your engine is tuned to use it. It's a fair way different from a stock cam though, so if you've still got stock carby, exhaust etc. then I'd imagine it would be worse than stock. Quote
19914afc Posted April 22, 2010 Author Report Posted April 22, 2010 ok, I'm putting a 32/36 weber and a 2.25" exhaust with extractors on. Quote
