August 21, 200521 yr comment_65267 Ok dokie, Just a Quick question to put my mind at easy, I've got a 3k motor here with a blown head, and a rebuilt 4k head also, can i put these two together, aka are these compatable. in order to put together a cheap yet reliable motor, both bottom end and head are in vgc. cheers Chris. August 21, 200521 yr comment_65273 yes, but it will be down on compression and make less power, i can't be bothered working it out, but i imagine you'd be looking at about 8.5:1 Report
August 21, 200521 yr comment_65290 good for forced induction. you could always skim your head for more compression. the only way to know for sure is to CC your head and work out the compression ratio. Report
August 21, 200521 yr Author comment_65307 Waho, cheers guys i know what i'll be doin on wednesday. and if your close to the mark with a guess at 8.5 compression then a small little turbo would be a perfect addition. i can get my hands on a gsr lancer turbo too.......... mmm... the possibilities, well i offically have a new project. hehe the missus will kill me. cheers guys Report
August 21, 200521 yr comment_65316 don't put over half a bar into it, you'll chuck a leg out of bed Report
August 21, 200521 yr Author comment_65319 don't put over half a bar into it, you'll chuck a leg out of bed i dare say your speaking from exprience etc. i think the gsr turbo is at stock rated at approx. 7psi without a modified wastegate.which if your on the money is the limit. Then if i was to incoperate a blow throu carbie setup with a large intake and plentum, this would reduce pressure until high revs given the stock gsr setup is rather restrictive. hmmm... more food for thought i'll have to hit my mate up about his spare gsr engine intake and exhaust setup. time for some late night fabrication i say. cheers Report
August 21, 200521 yr comment_65347 garbage. john mackenzie, who used to frequent oldcorollas ran over 20 psi through a non-intercooled blowthrough carbed 3k before he had any issues. even then it was head related, nothing to do with the bottom end. look way back through the oldcorollas archives. mid 14s from a 3k in a ke30 aint to bad. so long as you keep the AF ratios right, reduce total timing and look into charge cooling you shouldn't have to many problems, especially if the engine is decompressed. it is all in the tune, and overall matching of components. of all the engines i have heard of dieing, it is because they weren't setup properly. ie, not decompressed, or they paid no attention to reducing overall timing under boost, or had an insufficient fuel supply. probably the biggest reason for engine deaths, is just using old unknown condition engines. if you are looking for a blowthru carb, i have a weber DMTT if you are interested. August 21, 200521 yr comment_65348 and shaddow, who owned the actual turbo john used before john owned it, bolted his manifold onto several stock 3k wrecker motors and always killed them at 10psi decompressed, so you may be right still, jmac's was a dedicated drag car, not something you'd rely on for transport every day, especially at 20psi, that's just ridiculous Report
August 21, 200521 yr comment_65355 how much you want for the weber?.....i'm interested... i may need one to just get me by until i can afford to chuck efi on my engine. Report

"John McKenzie" <[email protected]> give him an email. not sure if it is current still. he is a very helpful guy. Report
